Please welcome to the Rocko Stables, an as of yet un-named, 1996 FJ80 Land Cruiser.
1996 Land Cruiser
4.5L I6 Auto with Center Diff Lock, Rear Locker, and Front locker, all factory.
Leather Interior (In better shape than expected)
Power everything.
Clean Carpets.
221K on the clock (just getting broken in - my '04 Taco has over 205K on the clock)
Engine bay one of the cleanest I've ever seen!
Got a good deal on it. Didn't even know it had the lockers till we got there to look at it, so they were a bonus!
The bad:
Power seats need work.
Power Antenna only moves about 4 inches.
Drivers door lock doesn't work from outside.
Power locks don't work the driver rear door.
Should all be easy fixes though. Still WELL worth the money we paid for her.
On to the pics!

Dan - No mods planned per se.
A few "restorative" type things, maybe a new dash trim kit, new wheel center caps, etc. Fixing the stuff thats wrong, no mods though. Want to keep it classic, and a great road trip/DD vehicle.

Anyone have an FSM for any year 80 series? obviously prefer the 96, but can work with anything.

Yeah saw a few FSM's on fleabay. Was hoping for an electronic copy around here somewhere.
We've been halfway hunting for awhile. Finally found this one, was well within the money we were willing to pay, and in one of the best shape you can find around here.
SO we drove and picked her up. It's Mrs. Rocko's new DD. All Toyota family now. MAkes me a very happy boy.

Her old DD was a '00 Ford Ranger Ex Cab Step side Sport. (4cyl 5 speed) Needless to say she is LOVING the FJ80.

Thanks Sean, I snagged all the FSM's from the NCTTORA site archive before it got wiped out after they had to pull them all down because of Cease and Desist letter. but they only had a wiring diagram for FJ80's - no Actual FSM. If you come up with anything, let me know.

*Keep an eye on that radiator, when the top caps start going that shade/color is usually when they will crack and leak within the next 12-18 months.

Thanks! We are loving it! Its got a few issues to take care of, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a 16 year old vehicle.

I love collecting things! Especially Toyota's.
WE just love the look of the 80 series, I have lusted after them for quite some time, and Mrs. Rocko recently decided that she wanted one, so we got on the hunt.

Will do. Planning on doing some maintenance stuff to it, will add radiator to the list before long.

Just an update, noticed the other day that it was quite noisy when she was backing out of the driveway to head to work, I asked her about it "Oh, its been that way"
I checked it out when she got home, and the fan clutch is TOAST!
Looks like a bearing let go, and the whole shaft shifted over sideways inside the clutch, and was making the fan off balance, and had the clutch in full lockup all the time, really noisy!
Anyway, a new upgraded Aisin blue shaft fan clutch and we are back in business.
It still has a relatively serious oil leak somewhere on the bottom end, and I think its time for a headgasket. Antifreeze looks dark and a little milky.... uh oh.

There is another thread around here somewhere about this, but this gor wrecked and totaled in the Southeastern Snowpocalypse last winter, so we are on the hunt for another one.
We debated back and forth on buying this one back, and salvaging what we could and scrapping the rest, or wheeling it, but it was in relatively bad shape (was hit pretty hard by an F450 service truck)
Hopefully updates coming soon. This time we are looking more at Lexus LX450's in a hope to get a slightly nicer shape interior.

Wow…bummer Chris. Sorry to hear about the 80 series being toast. Hopefully you all can find a nice replacement.

Just curious if lockers were even an option for the lexus. If they were I wouldnt see them being as popular as on the cruiser.

They were options. At least the center diff lock, was and thats a minimum requirement. Our Cruiser had center, front, and rear locker.

After a ton on Craigslist Ad's, pointless phone calls, countless emails, a lot of checking out cars, we finally found our replacement...
