I have a buddy that gave me a set of lift coils for my 96 tacoma. He also gave me some newer bilstein shocks off of a newer taco. I slipped the coils over the bilsteins to see if they could possibly work. The coil is about even if not a little taller than the shock. I was wondering if i could safely cut off about one circle off the bottom of the coil and if they would work just fine. Does anyone have any input on my idea? I got the whole lift, (aside from some rear spacers) for 80 bucks. Im not sure of the brand, but they look stout. I can post pictures tonight when i get home so yall have a better look at em. Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm assuming you slipped the coils over the top of the shock? And with the coil sitting on the spring cup the coil is taller than the shock?

The springs need to be compressed to be installed on the shock. You can rent or buy compressors to do the job. Shops can also do the work. I'd suggest doing some research to see if what you got will even work on your vehicle before you start taking things apart.

You'll need top caps, rubber spacers, shock nut, etc if you're not reusing what you already have.

I have extra shocks that I was going to mount the lift coils on. I know that i needa compress em and all, but i was just worrying if it would be a prob. I can slip em on and fit the whole setup on one of my corners and see if the whole thing will work. I just didn't want the coil to stretch the shock and bust them. You know what i mean? I don't know if the coil would stress the shock. The shocks and coils are for a tacoma btw.

are they lift shocks as well? lift springs on a stock shock will make your ride very harsh as you will have no droop travel (ride height will be at the shock's fully extended state). Also, it would depend on the spring rate whether the springs will work on those shocks as well. There are a lot of factors, and we would need some basic info to know for sure. Or you could just throw them on your truck and see how they ride, and modify from there.

See, i don't know what brand the springs are nor any of the info about em. What you were saying "Crinale" was what i was thinking about. Either way, im sure id have to mount them and see how they feel due to the fact that i don't know the specs on em. And the bilstein shocks i have come off of a newer 4x4 taco, '05-'12 model. So, im thinking that those are a bit longer than the 96 taco i have. WHat you think?

I don't think shocks from a newer Tacoma will fit on yours, they'll be too long...

too long as wouldn't provide a lift and fit long? Or, what? i don't think they are too much longer. Idk. Maybe i should just compare them side by side and test fit them.
