The original plan was to travel across the westerly portion of the Mojave Road. With the big storm moving through, we decided it was unwise to travel across Soda lake and through the Mojave river wash with flash flood conditions.

Instead, we traveled from Kelbaker Rd. to Ivanpah Rd. Unfortunately it was raining pretty steady all day, so there wasn't much hiking and walking around.

The first interesting thing we saw were these melon-like things growing in the river wash. They only grew in the area around the cinder cones.

The weather was.... fun....

Made it to the mail box and the frog shrine, only to find out frog missing!

We made a pretty big detour to go see the Mojave Cross. It was worth the 22 miles out of our way.

It was a great trip, we had no drama, no spinning tires or getting stuck! Big thanks to Dan and Mark for coming along!

Looked fun! Several familiar sights, but looked different all wet. Sucks about your frog Sean!

Looks like a good time! Troy and I saw some of those weird melon things in Panamint Valley. Strange, indeed.

they are odd. I have seen them in lucerne valley as well. they certainly are some tough plants to produce that much with so little rain.

I'd be tempted to pick one and cut it open just to see what it looked like.
