Hi folks,

Strange problem that's getting worse: It seems my front end is getting higher. I can't recall the last time or what value, but I am pretty sure my 4runner is taller in the front than in the rear. Now all I need is a wide billed flat hat, douche bag white rimmed glasses, a tribal tattoo, a few Metal Mulisha stickers, and a huge Rockstar or Monster energy drink sticker to complete the look. No seriously, this is f'g bothering me. Any clues to why this is happening and how to bring the front end downwards?

1998 4runner of course, of course.

What coils are you running these days?

I, too, think Bob is suffering from a saggy butt. It happens to the best of us.

99 coils front and back. the front has always been slightly taller.

So if I can't crank the front end down, what are my options for lifting the rear end?

some spacers? or do what Mike and I did, toss some air bags back there, so you can level it based on load.

If I were you I wouldn't touch your saggy rear end. I'd bolt on a Shrockworks bumper and winch up front. If it still needs a little leveling add some Cadillac horns. No DB status needed.

yeah i think ill go with spacers.

I'm getting f'g tired of pouring money into my 4runner. rear axle leak now. paid $415 for a starter install 2 weeks ago. seems like every f'g month, something new. i know the clutch master cylinder or something in the clutch hydraulic system is wearing out too. i know i'll need tires by end of year.

...just me bitching. old age is setting in.

Bob,
http://wheelersoffroad.com/product/old-man-emu/old-man-emu-80pf10-rear-trim-packer/

These 10mm trim packers might be the way to go. Hopefully 0.4" is enough to level it. They're cheap too.

$415 for a starter? A Toyota re-man is just over $100 and the install is pretty easy.

The contacts are 20 bucks and usually the issue anyways Bob.

150 for new starter, 250 labor, oil change plus this happened on monday morning, the c##t that hit my bmw denied me the ability to have a 2nd car to use as i delivered it to the shop the prior friday, so i couldnt exactly take the day off to buy contacts, rebuild a starter, and install it for the first time.

ken,

thanks for the trim packer link. i saw a daystar one that was 1.5" too. i know i have the measurements somewhere written down, but my mac is at the apple store getting fixed. im going do do some measuring and see what the distance from the top of the tires are to the apex of the wheel well arches.

Wheelers is a good company to order from. They get my thumbs up!

1.5" might be a bit high. something closer to 1" might be better.

Didn't you just get new tires a year ago?

I had the OME spacers and they didn't do much especially when you have a small load in the cargo area.

Sean,

You were right, it's about an inch difference. I don't think the difference was an inch last time, maybe 3/4". So something is up :/

Anyways, time to find a 1" spacer.

At this point it might be time to move to OME 906 coils. I can't say enough good things about the ride and cargo carrying ability of the OME 890s--I believe they are the same spring rate as the 906 but they are 1/2" taller. They are $160 at wheeler's, so just something to think about.

EDIT--on second thought, those coils should have never sagged that much and that quickly. Did you forget to unload a few kilos of something last time you went south of the border?

My OME springs are a year old or so. I never measured, if I did I may have lost the numbers, but they seemed to have settled quite a bit. I have to keep a little air in my bags to keep it leveled while loaded.

I have the 906's from Wheelers. There is a write up here somewhere.

ken,

thanks for the link. I'm going budget on this one, but if this ends up the budget option, thanks link the link. i can't recall, but I did a spring swap with one of the members.

Mike and Sean,

after some further thinking and evaluating, i'm going to pony up a little more money and buy/install the Air lifts. At least I can control the height---and be as cool and groovy as Sean and Mike!

I read Sean's Air lift 1000 post from '09 and neither of you mention anything about having an alignment done after the install. Did you or didn't you need an alignment? Seems every install thread I read about spacers is to get alignment. None of the air bag thread I've read say you need one, so my going in assumption is for air bags = no post install alignment

Where did you guys run and install the air inlet?

I read some threads on the interwebs saying that you don't really need to remove the coils but instead, cut down the rubber bumpstop with a hacksaw. Is that how you guys did yours?

FYI, the kit # is 60743.
