Do any of you have a recommendation on a place to buy replacement carpets? Are the ones on eBay any good?
My carpet is ruined. If any of you recall I think I had a leak in the driver side firewall grommet...for who knows how long... because my floor was rusted quite a bit.. and the carpet suffered from that as well as the MN winters. So, now I'm looking to replace it, get some better mats. This is all part of the "Keep Me from Trading It In" plan, which also is going to consists on seat covers and new springs. It's starting to look its age on the inside because of the carpet, and my ripped sit. And thanks to the PP springs it's riding like an old SA truck. Beats the shit out of me and the kids every day. One of the interstates here I avoid because it bounces me so bad I've literally hit my head on the roof once. It's not a plush old-Cadillac-esque bouncing.. it's like I'm taking my truck over some whoops, lol.
Here is the eBay carpet find:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-2002-TOYOTA-4RUNNER-4DR-CARPET-PASS-AREA-ANY-COLOR-/321303579695?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2000%7CModel%3A4Runner&hash=item4acf2f8c2f&vxp=mtr
I also need the padding under the carpet too.
Aside from that there was a thick rubber matt glued to the floor pan that I ripped out (most of it at least... up behind the pedals got kinda difficult to get to). I ripped it out for the purpose of a light sand and paint over the rusted floor pan.
So.. I think fixing this up should be quite the task, but hopefully it pays off in the long run because I'm really tired of my 4Runner at this point, and there's a black 2013 Tacoma 4dr/short bed that I've been eyeballing. I just don't want to force myself into eating ramen everyday.
HALP! :)

Found this place:
http://www.stockinteriors.com/AutoCarpet.asp?Itemid=5247&MakeId=37&ModelId=415
And a video of a guy installing it in his 4Runner here:

Required trimming extra off, but the mold seemed to fit his '97 pretty well. I might give them a shot and run their upgraded 'Mass Backing'. My 4Runner has the tan interior, so I'm not sure what would be the best match, but I'm going to see if they can't send me some real samples to compare with the cargo area (this is the only carpet that basically looks new for the most part).
If I can get some samples, I'll post up which matched best, IMO.
I won't be doing the carpet replacement until spring.. as I'd like to pull everything and touch up/redo my sand/paintjob on the driver side floor board. I'd even like to cut the driver section out and run it for a week or two when we're expecting rains to make sure that I did infact fix the leak.
1. New carpet.
2. Molded all-weather mats.
3. Wek Okole (sp?) or similar seat covers for the front.
That's my plan of attack. Won't have actual progress photos for a bit, but I'll keep this thread rolling as I buy up the pieces.
Still would like to hear from any members that've gone through this ... what brands did you go with // any hiccups you ran into.

Can't offer any opinions on the replacement carpet, but do ask for samples. A good place will offer them free, maybe for a small fee. It is worth it to know what you are getting in terms of color and material. I will be keeping on eye on this too, mine have seen better days.
for aftermarket all weather mats. I'd go with the weathertech ones. I have the husky liners and they are ok, but I really like the looks of the weathertechs better.

The site I posted does offer free samples, and I've already put in a request for 5 different colors. Should take about a week to arrive.
I must agree... I am leaning toward WeatherTech because I think they look much better.

Samples came today.. I took a few quick cell phone shots in my poorly lit garage. I used the cargo area for comparing, although after I realize that the carpet in the cargo is darker than the rest. I also compared it to the rear cargo mat. Each have a shot with and without flash. Then the samples flipped over to show which color the samples were.

IMO, the two on the far right are the closest match. However, you'll notice on the shots without flash that the next to last probably has more brown in it that needed. I'll wait to see it in natural light, but I'm thinking maybe farthest right will be my choice.
I might request a few more samples of other colors. You can only request 5 at a time.
And if you guys have seen my other thread.. I might compare the colors again my multicam so I'll have something to match my multicam seatcovers. :D jk. maybe.

Wow, thats not a bad price for getting a full carpet all the way to the cargo area and the well covers.
With the flash the depending on the pic the far right looks good, but so does the second to last, but then without the flash the second from the left looks to match better, but that may be my screen.
I will wait till you install but I am thinking I will order some samples too and compare them to my buddies 4Runner (since the carpets of mine are in a dump somewhere now...)
I saw your other thread on the seat covers, you kinda got me hooked on the multi-cam now lol
Def like the Digital Fit floor liners from weather tech

One of these days, I'll get my website back in order, I have the end to end process documented there. But I can tell you from experience that it's a good idea to put on some plastic sheeting in between the carpet and the padding. If there is a spill, at least it'll not soak the padding.
Padding = just go to the carpet store and ask them in they have remnant padding. Or even lowes/HD is cheap for this.

Let me know if you need any help with your site. I'm not a noob like I was a few years ago, lol. Good call though about putting plastic in between.
Got some samples from CoverKing in the mail today. I requested their taupe color 'Spacer Mesh', and their saddle blanket in black and tan. The taupe didn't really match any of the shades of the carpet samples I got, but the saddle blanket I actually like when compared against that far right carpet sample. http://www.coverking.com/custom-seat-covers/durable-cotton-saddleblaket-seat-cover.html

This is something I might actually do for seat covers vs the multicam.

So, I just went out to take some photos of the samples in 'natural' lighting against the backseat carpet... and somehow I fubared up the process. I opened the original picture from my phone to make sure I put them in the same orders, and started taking photos.
I pull the 4Runner back in to the garage after, come upstairs and start uploading to flickr. Then I notice I only have 5 samples in the new shots, not 6. And now I'm questioning that I didn't have some of them out of order. I KNOW the right two are correct. The left 3 I'm not 100% sure about. Light makes a DRASTIC difference from shot to shot.. to the point they don't even look like the same colors. [That holds true for the original ones I took in a dimly light garage, with and without flash.]
Anyways, I'll post two of them from today... I don't know which sample is missing. I can't gaurantee the order of the right 3 are the same as before.

Side note: Install new rear wiper guide, and universal wiper mount today:

Found the wiper I bought about 4 years ago, but didn't find it's mounting bracket. So, still no wiper for the time being.
