Not exactly new to the projector but I'm not exactly experienced. I've got this project underway while I am installing suspension and finishing up the rust proofing on the 06. Hopefully the rust proofing and suspension will be finished by the end of next week.

I generally drive during evening hours. I work one 2nd shift and for the most part i enjoy it since it carries far less drama than day shifts. Anyway deer are rampant and I've found that if you output enough light not only are they easier to see but if they are blinded well enough they freeze instead of panicking and running into the road.

I will be doing a set of RX-350 projectors in the high beam reflector spot on the inside and a 2.35" projector in the outside projector area. Unlike the stock setup both projectors will have high and low.

The rx projectors have a nice wide beam and the 2.35" are a little more narrow. Both will be running hid from morimoto. I did a set in the 98 4runner and was fairly impressed with the light output. It was much better than the stock setup in the 4runner.

I will be also replacing the drl with something a little brighter in the turn signal input. The turn signals will be handled by switchback halos mounted on the outside of the projectors.

The housing will be a flat black conversion because it's easy to find high temp paint in that particular color and I think it looks great with the projectors.

I've ordered a spare set of oem housings to keep a lid on downtime with the new 4runner and allow me to have an indoor project of sorts. The RX projectors are on their way as well. It would have been neat to incorporate the afs function but I do not believe that I have the ability to make that work since it would need input from the steering wheel to function. Stay tuned for pics and info.

Wow, sounds like a detailed project. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. I slapped drop in fan cooled LEDs into my headlights and have been happy with them. I've got 35w HID bulbs in the stock fog lights which makes them much more useful than stock.

It's almost like designing something from scratch.

I'll be taking pictures and probably some video on this. I am hoping this will be a mostly inside project just because it's getting cold outside lol.

HID is the way to go if you ask me from a safety standpoint. Lots of folks around here have dropped the amazon led stuff in and some have a fairly controlled beam while others are terrible.

Just waiting for the black Friday sales to hit so I can save a little Cashola on everything.

Yeah the OEM stuff looks good. I'll give a little more detail here. So the RX350 projectors probably won't fit in the center but I am fairly certain they will fit in the outer location. The d2s 5.0 is actually smaller in length so I am thinking I can squeeze it in with a hole saw. I'm trying to choose colors and I think I'm going to dim the glass just a tiny bit with the vht tint.

Inside the housing will be a satin grey background along with another color I haven't settled on yet. Perhaps a lighter grey because my arb skid plates are a light grey. They are en route too. Not bad for a black friday deal. 500 bones shipped for a little more piece of mind. Just need to get them in and then order ss hardware in button head bolts. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191129/a5dc76d6fc2e9135968962eb8f56b47b.jpg

I got a box filled with goodies! I honestly haven't even had time to go through them yet but I will update soon as I start to build them. First the house must be decorated or I will join the departed compliments of my wife.

In other kinda related news I went to BattleWagonActual and dropped off the 3rd gen. He's really happy and it was awesome to see him again. I'm a little teary eyed but but at least I know she went to a great home where she will be well cared for. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191201/bf22b91da8168d709decd2a0b94dd231.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191201/bd77308fabdd5a2fe896d73af6e5e515.jpg

Curious about popping the lenses and resealing. I've never done it and I know those housings are new but there seems to be a bunch of goop in there. When you reseal do you remove the sealant and apply more? I've heard of guys with moisture issues just warming and pushing down but it seems lens removal is the best way to do it.

I've got really bad moisture issues in both housings and want to keep the housings.

Just some more pics from today.

I'll edit this in a second with some descriptions of what's going on.

My humble temporary garage. It helps having family close by. At least it's warm.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/7eda24d36b9c5815b34a580ee45fc406.jpg

Initial fit on the d2s projector in the high beam area. Not a bad fit really once you zap some of the plastic out of the way.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/bd9cb15193ec12fc76e7ca93c39b2b76.jpg

Slapped it in and put the cover back on the headlight just to make sure everything cleared. There is plenty of room for this one. I will probably try to keep it as far from the lens as possible just because these things heat up.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/5e879bfcbd3d733f7ab4b95b8a61a0ac.jpg

I had to hack off a little bit of the rear to get the nut on. I'll cut some more off because I am going to install a keeper ring on the whole thing to keep the headlight from twisting.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/4e10752f32d005cd797d41f0339ef443.jpg

Mock test fitting of the rx350 projector. It's quite a bit bigger but it will fit. I would have likely been done with this is I had just gone with 2 d2s projectors but I thought the toyota touch would be nice.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/677e5662aec2a88b878daa12dd1ab440.jpg

This is the fixed shield for the low beam projector. It's going to grow up and become the mount for the rx350 after my dremel gets done.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/a62842c128a4e0dc8e7967add7de2d15.jpg

After I got the rx350 to sit nicely in the mount area I just slid the top cover on to make sure that I was centered in the "hole"
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191206/48f8a9e92579b6116f7cb5656db93666.jpg

Just a compairson picture to illustrate how little dremel work has to be done in reality. If I had an entire 8 hour day I could have these painted and knocked out but as my schedule is currently 1 to 2 hours a day is all I can manage if I'm lucky.

Resealing isn't horrible but you'll need some more glue. Headlight sealant is all that it's called. I've got lots of it but I'm going to need it here soon or I'd just send it to you. Anyway you'll need to cook the headlight in the oven at about 250 for 8 - 10 minutes depending on the appliance. Take a flat head screwdriver and pry the lens off of the headlight. From there you'll need to identify where your "leak" is and then clean up the inside really nicely. Then add your glue cold and then back into the oven for a heating session. Then the glue will be more pliable and should go back together flawlessly.

Since you're not doing any modification I'd say this takes an hour max per headlight. Just make sure you don't get the goo anywhere you don't want it. Acetone takes it off....but it also melts plastic.

Thanks. The glue from the Retrofit Source has been on my to-buy list for some time. We've been getting a lot of rain and whatever leak I have on each headlight is getting worse. My 3rd gen headlights did the same thing.

Took some time off to get a few other things done on the 4runner. I'm waiting on a set of silicone led strips and a larger set of halos for the outer set because I didn't measure properly. Hopefully I'll get some time to grind tomorrow but I have skids to install, a stereo to finish up, and a backup camera to run all the way to the back. I'm hoping theres enough line to get it where I want it but time will tell.

So lots of things have come and gone. I did not forget but life happens even if you're not expecting it.

There are so many things that I've done on this project but suffice it to say that it has been a challenge.

So I've made some progress. Between the basement and the beer virus it got busy with projects.

I'm sticking with the triple halo design and adding a strip for the side marking. It adds complexity but at this point it's not much to add. The bracket works and miraculously the bevel fits perfectly over it. Aiming will still be quite an interesting process since there are two per headlight but I suppose I will see what happens. If I can get them to point straight ahead I think I'll have a winner.

I used a new headlight restore system by cerakote. Apparently they will never yellow again. I have my doubts. However it did a pretty good job of getting the haze out of the headlights so I will see what it can do. They would still use a little more sanding work so I will do a couple more sanding stages and then cerakote again for a really clear headlight.

The last parts of the build are coming up! Then I'll have really bright headlights and nowhere to drive [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/29d99ee5d96312f99cdd0683af25fb31.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/8575b683eab4361fca3492aed3f2b5a1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/42f19c5e32f2855a5f9a8dffe6c59a6a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/7dd94e424bddca96ba8dd24f05a0ef6e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/3d242ed0d37146b8e53b011d2026f8a9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200605/47fae4324775c5cf71ac2791ebbb0ba7.jpg

Back in the game to get these done before winter. I was able to get a ton of the background electrical stuff done to set up everything for testing and installation.

Also got some new rubber mounted. Just a little higher but they definitely fill out the wheel wells a little better. Not bad on gas after calculations either. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200910/dc39c7b3c3b15d2161ca89a853c5cfab.jpg

Tossed in some underhood lighting. This will come in handy while I work on some of the other projects and God forbid something goes wrong at night.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200910/2042ef8eeceeeb69f3b2484f5167bbab.jpg

The OEM inputs for the lighting are in so I can pull directly off the stock lighting system for switching. Kind of handy. I still have to make the harness for splitting this to the two sets of HID that I will be running but that will be just fine for what I need. My only worry is the dimming feature in the dash lighting. If it isn't enough draw the stock electrical will not sense the load and dim the dash when I turn it on. If that's the case I will have to put a resistor on the driver side light.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200910/5367e74f23d8abad11a700ea5368350a.jpg

Just a quick pic of the bracket assembly with the circuit breaker added in and the silver button is for the underhood lights. It glows red which I thought was kind of nifty. It is a waterproof switch assembly so I shouldn't have any issues with it remaining under the hood.

Industrial grade velcro is da bomb!!! They are very secure and it's a 3m product so I trust that it will remain that way.

Had to get creative with the mounting on the driver side ballast but it works and should be plenty close for wiring.

Man these harnesses are gonna be the end of me. At least I went ahead with the denso connectors in the beginning.

The odd picture out is the anti-flicker harness to the two oem input for the ballasts. Just a quick one. The others are all the controllers for the led accessories. There is 4 of them for each side and I had a hard time thinking of a mounting close enough to where they could be consolidated into one connector. Electronic project boxes were the solution and luckily the pigtails coming from the led lights themselves are quite long.

Sooooooooo close but I ran out of time. Good thing I'm finishing this now as there is a chill in the air and I still have dt shorties to get installed before snow flies.

Wiring needs adjustment as the Amber's should not be running without the turn signals engaged. Also the modpods are serving as the turn signals which is also incorrect.

I'll have everything fixed tomorrow as I just need to remind some connections. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/26901b6e8de1105d09fce637b5926872.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/01f61c2919668ce19acc291cf6735318.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/0ddedae339b24814a90fadb0efbb860e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/7d996b7c231dbad3f70cc44782035937.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/55d7a4fad77965746fedc7338220eeb1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/5dbf2fde5ef1916693321013e2ecaafd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/1d25825dca374350f5629f292128bb47.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200919/aabdd1a42bd543ebd5499abda620fa14.jpg
