Gas cap

Well I finally did it. Thanks to Toyota for not putting a lanyard on it or giving us a place to put the cap, I have finally destroyed my cap. I put it on the tire like normal and then realized that the pump wasn't working so I got in the 4Runner and preceeded to go to the next pump and guess what? I ran over the cap. :chair: Now the question, can I replace it with a cap from autozone or similar or do I need to go to the dealer? :headscratch: Thanks.

Any universal gas cap should work...

You know, I don't know why they didn't give a place to put it. I have had to go across parking lots to find mine after it slid off the roof and gone back to gas pumps to get it off the top of the pump, etc. I haven't done it in awhile but every time I fill up I wonder about that.

I always balance it on the pump where the nozzle goes, that way I have to pick it up when I put the nozzle back.

i put mine in the back of the truck, and or on the top of the 4runner.

i had one roll off the back of the truck box as i turned onto the interstate, went looking for it found 2 others in the grass on just off the ramp turn.....

the other day i pulled up to a pump and found one sitting on top of the pump...

the 3rd gen 4runners have a place in the door to store it, just place the threads in the u shape.

as for the 2nd gens, not sure, i dont think they do from what i remember.

in the other cars, i hold on to it while the gas pumps, providing im not doing anything else. if i need to put it down, i put it on the cowl, that way i cant forget it.
