After a lot of research on picking up a good can-sniping rifle, the Ruger 10/22 just couldn't be ignored. It came up time and time again for its time-proven design, durability, and mod-ability. Good grief, one could easily spend $1000 in mods on this $230 rifle!

I went with the all-weather version, which Wal Mart lists for $203 (a great price!). However, your local Wal Mart has to order it, which can take weeks. As we all know, Wal Mart pretty much sucks to go into, so I decided to spend a tad more at my local Sportsman's Warehouse and opted for good service. After a lot of bickering, I talked them down on their $229 asking price. They gave me a $10 gift certificate to use towards this purchase.

I picked up a scope from Bass Pro and a couple of 10-round mags off ebay (which you can "jungle-clip" together.

I haven't had a chance to shoot this beauty yet, but I am really looking forward to it!

Let me know what you think...

Nice! You certainly can't go wrong with a ruger 10/22. Plinking is always fun. The best thing about that gun, is the fact that 10 bucks worth of ammo will last you practically all day. My poor ruger 10/22 has been through the ringer. She's probably seen more than 100k rounds. I'll probably replace it with the same one you have.

You can get 50 rd mags and 100 rd drums for that gun too. ;)

I hear ya! It just doesn't end with this thing. People mod this gun like people mod their cars...everything from barrel and stock kits to extended mag releases and, as you mentioned, high-cap mags. I saw a 90-round banana "clip" at one point!

One thing I keep hearing from 10/22 owners is how many rounds they've shot out of them and how they keep on ticking. I like the sound of that. I hope to keep this one for life.

Yeah, can't lose with Ruger 10/22's. That's what I would've bought if I hadn't gotten a Browning lever action for a present.

BTW, scopes are for people that can't shoot. :D

96, great purchase! got one myself w/ a bushnell scope. bore sited by the shop too.

remember good ol' peter (tacoma dude)? hes got one helluva pimped out 10/22. i dont think there's an original part on that except maybe the receiver. a few of us shot it 2 or so years ago. beery nice!

re mags: i have found that the plastic butler creeks misfeed quite a bit, so you need to clean them, esp the lip part. but the best ones that dont misfeed are the black 10 round drums that come with the rifle itself.

True that, and my extractor gets gummed up after about 500 rds and starts jambing the spent shell between the bolt and the face. I'd have take a minute to clean it while laying waste to squeakers.

Shot a couple hundred rounds through the 10/22 this weekend while camping. All I have to say is that this thing is awesome! Once the scope was dialed in the rifle was dead-on. It was so quiet that I didn't need to wear earplugs either. How cool is that?

Awesome rifle. Highly recommended.

Very Nice! I agree, you can't beat the 10/22 in terms of number of mods. So far all I've done is put the scope on mine. If you have any desire to get a collapsible stock you better do it before they ban them again.

Lance can barely contain his excitement:

As Bob pretty much said, very little of this rifle is stock. I got most of my parts replaced with Volquartsen or Power-something parts. Whatever you do, do NOT replace the firing pin. I replaced mine with titanium and Bob and Lance can tell you - I was having misfeeds upon misfeeds with that. Since replacing the stock pin I haven't had any problems. The titanium was probably too light to provide enough of a strike against the round.

I have also found that no other magazines work quite as well as the Ruger factory original mags. I tried out the Hot Lips mags and they caused a lot of misfires. Then again 10/22s can be pretty particular. My rifle never wanted to shoot CCI ammo despite the good reputation it has.
