When using clay on my vehicle, Do I have to use the specified spray lube or can I use just water?

water with a dash of soap.... you need for the clay to slip

Cool, I have plenty of clay but no spray lube. That stuff can get pricey.... I am goin to "tidy" up both of my Toyotas this weekend.

just a capful of car wash fluid in a 32 oz bottle. the water should have a sheen to it and the clay bar should move easily on the car, but not soapy enough to make suds.

I have a bunch of Meguiar clay but no lube, going to try the soap and water route.

aaron,

i had decent luck w/ griots on lighter colored vehicles but does not do a good job on the darker vehicles at all. i prefer zaino on the darks. also, i foudn their clay nothing special either. better to just buy it from the local auto parts store.

Where do you get Zaino at? Also is it long lasting?

www.zainobros.com. oh yeah, it lasts a long time---much longer than any wax-based product i've ever used, including griots. its synthetic and it is not a wax.

There is a product that is called "Perfect Detail," it is made in Johnston Iowa and it is a spray on way that is applied after a good old fashion wash and dry. You can even put it on your glass. This stuff is a high luster product made for car show buffs! You should be able to get at the parts store on Merle Hay Road, you know the two that sets east side of Merle Hay before you get to Douglas heading North across from the Mac Donald's. It comes in a white spray bottle. TJ

Zymol is really expensive, but is great wax. Application is a pain b/c you're supposed to apply it with your hands to impart the heat to it. Expensive though.
