I am curious if anyone has experience with a 3.0 for a Formula Toy type build.

I have a lead on a 3.0 based rig and want to make a decision soon. Will a 3.0 run on it's side, extreme angles, etc?

That motor is a turd. Poor power generator and worse fuel consumption. There are many better options IMO.

As far as running on it's side, etc. Most modern motors will run on their side and extreme angles. The problem isn't with the fuel system, but with the oiling. If it runs on it's side too long, you run the risk of oil starvation.

That's pretty much a risk with all engines. Even with a dry sump system, you have the same worries.

Personally, I wouldn't use the 3.0. There are lighter engines that are more advanced, produce more power, and are more efficient.

I don't need power with gears, I don't care about fuel consumption.

Please keep in mind, this will be a trail only, Toy-based, tube buggy.

Is Cheese out there for a comment?

Yes.

I have rolled 6 of those trucks.

Each hydro locked whether on the side for a number of seconds or minutes.

The vaccuum crap is a pain, the power and complexity is worthless. I would either run a 3.4 or a 22RE or some dress. Cheap, plentiful, simple and tolerant.

I have seen Joey drive is 3.4 on the roof, smoking like a diesel, flipped back over and keep going.

Sounds like you are a busy beaver.
