Some of you know that I was planning on doing a 1UZ swap into my 4Runner over the summer. After lots of thought and searching, I scored a red 1978 280Z The car cost me 800 dollars but came with a spare engine, 5 speed transmission, fuel injection system, headers, bumpers, and a few extra parts. The seller is PCS'ing to Germany this coming week and he needed to get everything out of the garage.

I figure that this will be a much easier swap primarily due to the excessive amount of room in the engine bay (people have been able to fit LS7's in them with room to spare). Without further delay, here are some pictures; tell me what you think.

Current plans are to swap the 1UZ in, fix/clean the interior, and repaint it (home-rolled).

Don't recommend you use the recovery points on the front bumper!!!

Seriously, I have a real soft spot for the early z's, that one looks really solid. My buddy had one in high school, first manual tranny I ever drove, and first car I ever took over 100. both in the same day actually. His was in similar shape, and with studded snows all around made a decent ride to the ski slopes. I like your plan, and can't wait to see some progress.

I actually plan on removing the front and rear bumpers because 1) theyre weak (and mine have some surface rust) 2) they kinda ruin the overall look of the car.

I probably would've had to snag that car for that price. Looks good to me!

Yeah, an SAS and F/R lockers is on the list as we speak too. I'm gonna do built D60's and dual crawlers.

Just kidding! =)

Nice score!! Sorry to see the 4Runner work being postponed, we can't fault you for taking advantage of a great deal. By the time you get back to the 4Runner, we'll have all the details worked out on the 1UZ/4Runner swap for you.

Awesome. I can't wait. Biggest reason that I hadn't done the swap yet on the 4Runner was waiting on SuperRunner for the bellhousing kit. For this project, I'm starting with the stock auto (save some $) and then swapping to an R154. By that time I should be running an aftermarket computer and getting ready for boost. Imagine a TT'd 1UZ in a 2700lb car. Sheesh.

Looks like I'll have to order 2 bellhousing kits from him then for the Runner, and the Z.
