Yes, Elton I am, I am not built to be a mechanic, I was wondering what it is and how hard it would be to do for a guy that wears a size 2XL glove. When I was younger I used to do all kinds of mechanical work, now I am too big to fit into a lot of tight places and work on something. TJ

For the 3rd gen 4runners and equivalent tacoma trucks it's where you drill a big hole in the air filter box so the engine could breath better. For water crossings you cover the big hole with a deckplate, which is a waterproof cover used in the marine industry.

In the early days it was reported to be the best thing since sliced bread. "Instantaneously add 20 HP at the wheels!!!!" Well the hype (fad) has since died out. I'm not sure what the current opinion of that mod is.

It's pretty easy to do and I definately don't regret doing it on mine.

Here's a writeup for you TJ:

.....although I don't have any screen on mine at all.

It's good for a documented 5WHP on a supercharged 5VZFE (with proper tuning mods). I hear it's just as good on a N/A 5VZFE.

I keep mine capped during the summer so it draws air in from the fender. I pull the cap when it cools off again. I can feel the difference at high R's.

ok jim, if you are as adept as you say you are with firearms, i imagine you can field strip one of your guns with your eyes closed. that said, if you can't figure out the deckplate mod, i'm gonna have to question your ability to do *anything* in general :hillbill:

dude, its not hard at all.

I did the deckplate mod on my old '97 4runner. I kept the cap on it after I installed the supercharger because getting enough air was no longer an issue, my issue was getting enough fuel!
