Have any of the 2nd gens here done this mod? If so post your install tips and thoughts in this thread. I will try to detail my install when the time comes. Right now I am just stoked that I have one. :D

I have one too....but I paid $20, and did not get the pad. I know Jsnby on YT has done it, and this guy...but he cut panels??

I picked up one for $25 with the pad. Never got around to installing it though. Many people have done it in a 2nd gen but two of legs need shortened to fit it in the back.

When and where are you going? Hopefully you are coming through the central coast.

Good find

I got mine last weekend. Some guys where talking about one for sale on craigslist in Vacaville, guy said he couldnt find the listing. I went browsing thru and the rest is history.....

I started trimming last night. I took 2" off the short legs but it looks like I will need to take off a little more. It is a pain to wrestle that thing in there. I am putting it in through the front and am trying to not have to take off any panels. I did remove the upper seat belt holders. I also noticed that mine is slightly tweaked, once I take that out it should go in easier.

Mrs. Fuster and I are thinking about a PCH run from LA to Port Angeles and across the strait to Vancouver Island next summer in either the runner or my FJ40 project if I finish it by then. It would be fun to meet up. We'll see how plans solidify as time unfolds. I wish I could do it this summer, but she has her sights on Europe.....I hate flying.

That sounds awesome. We'll touch back on occasion as things develop. It's a bit out, and alot can happen between now and then, but It'd be a blast to hang for a while with you...

I was going over this while Pops was welding on the sliders today.
Since i don't really want to take out the platform. And just make the relief cuts to fit the bar. I have it in my head to make three cuts.

What i have in mind since its a purely cosmetic thing is to make the above cuts. cut down to length from the inside and use a inner sleeve to hold it all together. couple holes and some flat headed bolts and acorn nuts and it will be all good.

You could do that. I think it could be done that way and you wouldn't have to make that middle cut. Do your two side cuts, take the top in and hold it up where you want it, measure down to find out how much to trim your cutoffs.

very true.

You can almost tell it was just a quick brainstorm.

The only thing i wont know till kick off is if the feet will have the right pitch.

how is yours coming?
