Some say that 1999 is the best year of the 3rd Generation of the Toyota 4Runner due to the upgrades in the interior and exterior as well as the additional features that were added. I would say that I have to agree, but I'm biased as you can imagine.

Unfortunately, the time has come to sell my toy. This thing is built for offroad trail riding and exploration, yet it can be a daily driver just as easily. With dual ARB lockers, front & rear armor, skid and belly pans, it will take you just about anywhere you want to go. If all that gets you in trouble, then you can rely on the Warn 8000-lb winch to get you out.

I have had this 4Runner for right at 4 years and it has yet to give me any problems at all. All maintenance has been completed by myself, a Toyota Dealer, or a veteran Toyota Master Service Technician at his independent shop using OEM parts. I haven't skimped on the build, so I would expect this thing to give it's next owner years of dependable service considering Toyota's excellent reputation for quality and reliability.

My intention at the start was to have the most capable 4Runner that I could possibly build, while maintaining the drivability and street-able nature that would allow it to be a daily driver if needed. I would have to say that I believe I have succeeded in that endeavor. I can drive this thing just about anywhere I care to, yet I can maintain an average of 16.5 MPG on the highway.

As you can imagine, I will be taking quite a beating on selling this 4Runner. I have not only invested my hard-earned money into it, but also my blood, sweat, a few tears, and my dedication and ingenuity to try to make this thing continually better with every change or addition that I've completed. I'm assuming by now that you're wondering why I would be selling something that I have so much personal time invested in. It's really quite simple. I have it set up for more of a trail exploration and rock-crawling capability. I will be moving to the beach soon, and there won't be a rock within 100 miles worth looking twice at. By selling this, I will have the funds to buy a FJ40 so I can enjoy my Toyota in a topless fashion. :D In short, my life is ever-evolving and it's time to move on.

All-Weather Floor Liners to protect Carpet ($80)

In closing, you can see that this thing has been my on-going project for the last several years and includes over $12,000 worth of improvements (not including labor). The book value on a 1999 4WD Limited 4Runner in similar mechanical condition is between $11,000 to over $13,000 depending on if it's Private Party or Dealer Retail (with mileage deduction already taken into account) without all the extra goodies that make this one so unique. With one son now approaching 4, another on the way, with an imminent move to a totally different terrain, I am forced to part with one of my passions. I would hope to pass this on to another enthusiast so that they can continue to enjoy such an awesome machine. Pricing is "FIRM" and is more than fair considering what you would be getting for your money. You simply cannot buy a newer 3rd Generation 4Runner and build something comparable for less money than what I'm asking.

Thanks for looking!

Good Luck Andy.
I must say I am a little sad to see you sell this beautiful rig.
One of the few that I have used as a muse for my own build.

If only I wasn't a broke college student.
Having to 3rd Gens would be awesome!

Andy, thats a nice gesture, but no need, (i appreciate it though) just glad to be welcomed here.

bamachem

hey, it's not a gesture, and it goes for anyone who refers a buyer who completes the sale.

also, the eBay BIN price is $16,000 (or best offer), but the forum price is still the same.

Who put your radio in, Leatherface? Sure doesn't look like your handiwork... :flipoff:

yeah, i did that on the 4rnr.net page too so it's also on all the other forums as well. :D

on the headunit, it's really not as bad as the flash made it look. under "normal" conditions, you can't really see any appreciable gaps, etc. it's not my best work, but the pic also makes it look WAY worse than it really is. i think i'll be changing that one out tomorrow! good thing i always host my pics on my own site and that way i can change them at any time even though eBay locks out the auction description after the first bid.

i wish i had the bucks to just pay it off and stick it in a 10-car garage and pull it out once a month to play, but i didn't win the lotto this week either... :D

Andy,
With the sale of your 4Runner, will you be keeping your personal 4Runner website up, esp the suspension info? Thanks.

yeah, at least for now.

at some point, all that info will be captured here at UltimateYota for posterity and put into the WIKI. at that point, i'll let the hosting service go, and probably just point the URL here.

he's supposed to get active here and at least post some wheeling pics from time to time. that was a "condition" of the sale! :D ;)

yup. i bought the replacement before the 4runner even shipped, and the new owner of the replacement flew in today to take it to it's new home. currently, i have my 95 acura legend and the wife has the 00 land cruiser. this is the first time that we've been down to 2 vehicles in a very VERY long time. the next toy might be a 71/72 K5 Blazer (fully topless, full size, and V8 with auto trans) or a 17'-19' saltwater inshore/bay boat - i haven't decided on that yet, but i'm leaning on the blazer side so that i can spend what i want and then build it into what i want to have. when it's time for a boat, i can just buy one and make payments for the right one, which isn't an option for the blazer. before i do anything, we've GOT to sell this house! i want as much in liquid assets as i can get until we're out from under two household payments.

So what was the replacement that was already sold? It wasn't that FJ40 that I told you about was it? Have you been able to sell your house yet in TN?
