i've heard that you can take a radiator from a 88 or 89 and put it in an 85 the later ones have 3 rows as opposed to the two rows can anyone confirm this or come up with a part number?

Done it. Bolts right up.; fan shroud fits and everything....Just order a v6 rad from your local parts place.

I tried this on my 88 pickup and it hit the hood. It looked like it was easily modifyable to fit but I just didn't feel like it and stuck a 4 cyl one back in.

Hmm. Unless your hood is different from mine and the others I know of which have been modded, then the rad you got may have had differently placed mounting tabs....Perhaps it would be prudent to take the tab location measurements with when buying the new rad

Yeah.. The problem I had is since the radiator was thicker it hit the reinforcement bars on the hood. I tried to move it down and it hit the IFS skid.. I needed the truck done quick and just gave up. But, guess what.. Driving in the 99 degree heat here yesterday it started to overheat (the fan clutch isn't working now though :X ).

Yess.

That's some fun stuff.

Pop's Got a longer hose set up from work (must be nice working for a steel fab shop) so now you don't have to drag the bottles all the way out into the drive way.
Does anyone weld using gas? i am wanting to learn it.

Hijack done

I'm willing to bet that that 22ret radiator is the same as the V6, as far as I can tell they used similar items.....3rds, transmission, maybe radiator.

I have a 3 core in mine. The fan shroud was too big so, I don't have one. I have a fiberglass hood, so fitment was not an issue, but it shouldn't interfere.

Go with an electric fan while your at it and squeak out another 2hp from that rabbit mill.

I'd forgo the spare 2 horsepower and count on the reliability of that lawnmower blade.

- the 2hp was a joke.
My buddy has the side-by-side fan set-up on his '83 and loves it. Makes the engine bay look tight.

I'm guessin' you're not selling DeathRunner?

The main advantage I see to electric is better cooling at crawling speeds. But 2hp and a tight looking engine bay aren't high on my list. hahaha

I'd rather be Captain Loser, since I have IFS.

.....and I think I had a change of heart, I am keeping the Deathrunner. I think I just needed to take a break. I tend to get ahead of myself pretty quick.

Try

http://www.radiatorbarn.com

for specific info. Plug in your info on make, year and model and you'll have the correct radiator(s) for your ride listed. The dimensions are listed in the specs.

I have an '89 2wd 22RE/A43 automatic. I'll be buying a 3 row radiator to replace the 2 row I have now. Last time I looked, radiator barn wasn't selling plastic tank units. All of theirs were all metal.

Anyone have an opinion on aftermarket plastic tank radiators? The people I have talked to say bad things about them.
