I finally got around to finishing all the mod to my front bumper

Removed the foam bumpstops, added some real push blocks and a hoop for the winch hook. Other past mods were reworking the turn signals, fog lights and making new side wings.

Welded in the top 2 inspection cover holes

Cut up an old Tire to make the front push blocks, relocated the plug for the winch remote.

I'll be uploading more pictures later of the strengthened frame mounts.... the additional bracing that was added made them more than twice as strong.

i still say that hook's the size of a cadillac.

now, use the rest of that MTR tread for some shoes.

Wow! That looks great! I love the idea of using the old tire for the push blocks! Gives it a bit of a more rugged look!

Cool you actually took time to work on your own rig. That did turn out nice. Now you just need to fab up the new rear spring perches.

nice setup Bruce,

about the rear, thought bout going LT sprung under Leaf setup?

Now why would I go with a leaf set-up? Yes it's easier and cheaper, but I like the advantages of links. If you don't understand then look up about interaction with roll centers etc....

Working on the rear spring pockets this week, hopefully I'll have something to post soon....

As for the huge hook, that's part of winchline.com set-up. I went with their fireline 100' x 3/8", tube thimble, 10' rock guard and 10 ton hook.

oh didnt know, just thought a good sprung under Fox shock setup would be sweet, and would cost more then most though.

That is pretty awesome Bruce!
It's very cool to log in every now and then and see what cool new tweak you have :)

I'd go for that. Wouldn't need to buy new shoes for a while.

Awesome, Bruce! Very very cool. I agree, TJM should be taking a look at what you're doing. This is real R&D, folks...

Looks sharp Bruce . Good idea to add the extra support bracing too.

I still have say though, your turn signals are the coolest mod yet I've seen done to a TJM.

I'd like something like that for mine.

Thanks for all the comments..........it would be nice if TJM or ARB made their bumpers with the standard oval design, it gives you so many more lighting options.

As for my rear suspension, I'll make a new post as things progress, but as a teaser, the plan is to use my dual spring capture design, so I just placed an order for a pair of 12" travel short bodied Bilstein shocks and a set of 2 1/2" diameter 8" 150lb springs for the project.

Bruce,

Looks awesome! I have one question (hopefully not dumb). Why doesnt anyone make a aluminum version of a plate bumper? Strength? Durability?

I know welding alum. can be tricky. Could that be a reason??

Cost is the main factor, Jeff Bathke had a set of custom aluminum bumpers made for his 4Runner, they do look cool!

personally I perfer to work with steel, cheaper and easier......

I've been asked where I got my turn signals at..... purchased them off eBay.

Just do a search for sequential LED turn signals and you'll find plenty, recently picked up a spare set for $72......
