The wife wants a camera over the front door since we don't have a peep hole. Naturally, I have to take it a step further put together a cool security system for the whole house :king:. And no, I don't want a peep hole.

I don't want a wireless camera and I don't want some junk webcam. I don't necessarily need the reliability of a full on DVR surveillance system, but I would like the ability to record to my computer.

Anybody have any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting a video capture card, a camera or two, and some kind of software off the web.

Not sure of the web software. I am sure its out there.

You need to get ahold of me. I can see what i can do. Cameras and the such are small enough to ship cheaply

A DVR w/ Networkability would be the way to go, no sense reinventing the wheel. All the PC based DVR's we have on the ground never seem to be as easy to use as the embedded ones we use.

I have at least three top quality manufactures avail to me and a third source that caries lesser expensive stuff.

I can get Bosch http://www.boschsecurity.us/ItemPage.cfm?PrdctGroup_ID=3&cntry_ID=47&lang_ID=1 (money)

Speco http://www.specotech.com/categoryvideo.asp (been around the block a time or two)
and

Arm http://www.armelectronics.com/ ( new kid on the block doing some good stuff [like a back up camera system http://www.armelectronics.com/page.aspx?p=76 ])

Pm me or I'll open AOL and we can talk a little or do the email thing.

And remember for all that read this i OWN a custom electronics company its what i do and if i don't know about it i know who does. So ask before you jump.
