I got invited to do some trail runs at Gold Mountain and White Mountain (in the Big Bear area) this weekend...Just wondering if anyone has any info on these locales? I have 33's, 3" sus. lift, sliders, but I'm not locked. I don't want to get myself into something I can't get out of. Thanks in advance!

You should be fine on gold mountain. I ran it with 33's no sliders or lockers just fine. Airing down is key. I don't know about white as I haven't been on it, hopefully someone else will chime in. I believe it is similar to gold.

Yeah, you'll be find out there on Gold Mtn. You might need a tug or two if you really try for it.
I don't know about White Mtn.

Sweet! I'm going to try driving more this weekend (practice for Pismo and hopefully June)! :) What are your recommendations for tire pressure? We usually go down to about 12psi.

Edit: would you say Gold Mtn was easier, same or harder than Dish Pan Springs? I've ran that trail, just so I have a good reference. Thanks! :)

you'll be fine on both trails. gold mountain is a 3-4 hour trail depending on the size of the group. white mountain is a longer trail but it has a lot of cut offs so you can easily make it into a short trail run. I'd say white mountain has a few tricky spots but nothing you wouldn't be able to accomplish w/ your 4runner.

good luck and have fun! btw i personally like white mountain not because of the difficult spots but rather the scenery. it's actually goes thru some nice areas of bb that most don't encounter.

My only problem with doing both of those trails is the 13-15 mile drive between them. White Mtn is pretty easy with the exception of the climb up. Last time I did it the rain/snow had caused some erosion issues that made it harder than before.

Yeah, you should be alright. I ran Gold mountain a few weeks ago, dont know about White Mtn. though. Watch out for sharp rocks on Gold Mtn., the guy i was with when i ran it tore a sidewall about 5 miles into the trail. There are a few spots that lockers are good. Can definitely be done without, but with, i just crept up. Without they will require a little more skinny pedal. Have fun.

Agreed You should do fine. Have a good spotter you trust help you out on the difficult sections. That makes all the diff in the world.

I did Gold Mtn 3 times without a locker. Have fun and take lots of pics for us!
