New to the site but i suppose so is everyone. Been on yotatech for years but thought I'd help contribute to this site as well. I'm an active attendee of the SE4RJ and know most of the people from yotatech and here that go to that event.

This thread is to discuss, comment, display the projects I have for my truck for the summer. I'll update the list of planned projects soon.

For those not familiar with my truck theres a thread on yotatech with the complete engine rebuild last year. My screen name there was/is NCSU-4runner but i used JMG4runner here b/c thats my AIM screen name, and the SN i use on every other forum.

Major vehicle specs:

94 4runner body/frame

89 Supra 7MGTE turbocharged inline 6
-Complete bottom up rebuild 1000 miles ago
---http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=73300
-complete upgraded fuel system (injectors/pump/fuel cell/engine management)
-custom installed intake/exhaust/radiator/EFI harness etc
-estimated 320-350 RWHP at 12-15+ psi after break in and tune, will be dyno tested

Front solid axle swap
-Allpro kit from like 5 years ago with 3inch springs
--- will be changing to 4inch marlin springs this summer due to crappy shackle angle and mediocre droop on the short springs

Stock rear 5link geometry
-lengthened and adjustable links
-3inch lift cruiser coils
--- 4 link coil-over planned for the summer

and to start the fun,

What do you do with an otherwise clean/straight 4runner body ?

Start chopping it up of course.

after the welding/grinding is complete and its safe to put the fuel cell back in. . . I'll get someone to ride with me and video so you can experience the symphony that is an inline 6 turbo at full song. It's running very rich since I haven't started tuning the engine management. Right now the ECU gets very confused at WOT with the upgraded injectors and it goes super rich, but I'll be changing that soon.

can't find any rear link pics right now, but I think they are still retailed by allpro. lets see if it will let me hotlink them. It was the cheapest/quickest way to match the front SAS at the time, I think they are overpriced even still and wouldn't do them again.

yup, i woke up one morning and thought my truck had too much sheetmetal, so off to the hardware i went. 8 cutoff wheels later that was the result. More pics coming tomorrow most likely. I ran out of welding gas this morning so I need to replenish that before i can weld the last section in place. After all 3 sections are welded and smoothed out the bed bob starts.

lookin good so far.

Im going to links in the somewhat near future if I can find the money. Dropping some coin on a full chromo 60 sometime this week.

But yea, 3link-panhard up front with 16" coils peaking through the hood. 4link with the same through the floor.

The to-be-installed list:
-30 spline longs
-HP 5.29/ARB
-Trail gear Power steering pump/resevoir/cooler
-long slip front driveshaft (silver one is my spare, the one from high angle driveline needs the D44 joint cut off and a toy flange put on)
-R151/23 spline tcase
-Stubbs Welding sliders ( still sitting in my garage since i won them at last years SE4RJ :king: )

Still waiting to be delivered
-Custom cast R151/7M bellhousing
-23 spline 4.7 gears from Marlin ( been on backorder over a month :gay: )

Hoping to get some more done with my body work today. I'll post some progress pics of that soon.

A huge thanks to Brian at WabFab. I'll always buy my parts through him now, even if he is old :flipoff:

Ohh, and yes my credit card is still smoldering even after repeated water dunks.

i have a 5.0 case going in to my runner next month

I need 23 spline tcase gears since the R151 has a 23 spline output already. Most people only need 23 spline tcase gears to go behind a dual case adapter which has a 23 spline output. Normal 4cyl trannies are 21 spline output. The 21 spliners were in stock back when i placed my order.

There are many reasons I would never buy 5:1 AA gears. Here are some of them, look 1/3 to 1/2 way down the page for the tcase gear discussion.

body work for the back of the cab is pretty much done. Bobbing the bed starts tomorrow, then I'm going to finish off the top of the bed to make it look like a normal bed, and blend it into the back of the cab.

also installed the front HP/5.29/ARB with the 30 spline longs. Now all i need is a working set of hubs and I'm good to go for 4WD. Going to setup the ARB compressor and switches/lines after the bed is done.

primer is still wet in the last pic, and I havent ground down the weld at the bottom of the bed yet since I've gotta go to work too ! Wouldn't it be nice if they'd keep paying me if I didn't go ? I left the top of the bed roughed in since I'm going to be welding the cap onto the sides to complete the "bed" soon.

Comments on my first attempts at body work?

Out of curiosity, do you have a muffler on there?

jmg4runner
07-03-2007, 08:59 AM
Yes, but its a straight through style muffler meaning you can literally see straight through it. Meant for minimum restriction and max flow. It did mellow out the exhaust sound significantly but it's still very loud. Before the muffler it was a very raw angry sounding exhaust, now it just sounds awesome.

I'm working on it ! If i didn't have any friends/family/work things would progress much quicker wouldn't they ?

I have the metal behind the back seats in place, just trying to get it smoothed out some. When i get back from the beach this weekend ( yay for 3 days in Charleston, SC  ) I'm going to start working on finishing the top of the sides of the bed, and putting the new fuel cell in.

pictures for your viewing pleasure. I'm pretty sure the body work is as good as its gonna get. I showed the "good" side that i did when I was still into putting a lot of effort into it. The passenger side isn't quite as smoothed out but I'm so sick of sanding. Right now its obviously just primered, I'm likely going to repaint the whole truck before i try to start any exo-cage work. Still undecided about trying to close in the cab behind the seats. For now its just going to stay open and in the garage and only brought out on nice days anyway. I took out one of the rear seats and mounted a place to put stuff like my eventual dual batts, air compressor, amp for the stereo I'm gonna put back in it ( can't stand not having any tunes ! ). The wood is bolted to the truck in 4 places and everything bolts to that, so no yard sales in the event of a rollover :D . Last pic shows after i pulled the rest of the dash out. I'm working on finding some aluminum sheet to do it all up in that. I ordered a switch panel from 12-volt guy that will be pretty sweet.
