with a body lift and a wheel with a different backspace, yes they will

otherwise no, honestly i kinda regret buying mine. way more hassle than i think it was worth.

yea, its a great tire size, especially where you do not have a lift.

No, they will not fit a stock 4Runner without at least 2" of lift or more.

If you don't have a lift, that's as big as you can go.

actually the 01's sit a little lower from the factory so i wouldnt even run that size personally. id stick with 265/70s, but thats just me.

Good point, Lee's right.
Unless you want to put 99 4WD coils on your truck, stock tires are it for an 01-02 4runner.

I agree with Lee on this. Our 01/02 sit low from the factory. A 99 could handle 265/75 no problem. They will rub on ours though without a lift. Ask me how I know...LOL

Unless you plan on lifting her I would just go with a good All Terrain tire at 265/70R16. That tire will take you lots of places with the truck in stock form!

how much taller is an 01 4wd to a 2wd? i ran 265/75 mtrs on mine, however even just going up an entrance hill at the wrong angle it rubbed, but that was it. I did trim a tiny bit.

offroading? never tried it with those tires until I lifted it so im sure it would have been trouble.

pretty sure they ride at the same height between 4x4 and 2wd. If it rubbs slightly on small inclines on road the rub off road will be really bad. Do a 2" body lift and it will work great. Then when he wants to go bigger like to a 315 he can just do the suspension lift and be good to go.

They will absolutely fit. No problem. Put them on. Use this Tire Fitment aid, and POOF. 285's, 315's, whatever you want.

yup. the sawzall mod is much better than any body or suspension lift can offer...and its way cheaper! width wise though, you may have a problem. stick some 1" spacers up fron or all around if you wish...t n youre golden.

I am installing the OME 981/906 setup like Jamie is running. I have a set of 16x8 cruiser wheels like Sonny. Can I get away with the 285/75 setup? I think on 8" wide wheels, tires usually end up a bit less tall then mounted on narrower rims.
Just curious what you guys think on that. I'll be buying tires right after I install the lift.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd post up to say that I run 265/75/16 on my 2002 4Runner stock suspension (actually lower than stock because the old suspension is getting tired). I've taken it offroading in some good articulation sections several times and I've never had a rubbing issue on mine.

i know for sure, if run 285 on stock rims, you need wheel spacers to clear the UCA. i have 1.25" on mine, and it doesn't rub at all.

That or you can get aftermarket control arms or sonoran's shaved a-arms

I cleared mine perfectly fine with OEM rims and 285s when i was running 33's

265/75R16 should fit without an problems, but as it was said before your year 4Runner is a bit lower from the factory so you may have minor rubbing. Nothing to worry about.

285/75R16's "require a wider wheel." as told by Discount tire. There are lot's of other threads about this too. Try a simple search. You'll also have to do some fender modifications, perhaps not with AxleIke's "fitment aid" but perhaps some trimming for sure. As for the spacers...try not to.

255/85R16's are a great choice IF you like the skinny "pizza cutter" look and don't want any rubbing caused by width. These are 33" tall and 10" wide. Either way the gearing will be different and therefore improve or worsen your MPG.

I just recently lifted my 00 4Runner and want a taller tire profile as well and I think the 255/85r16's are the ticket.

Hope this helps.

okay, i know its debate upon debate wtih this.
But what is the wides tire we can run stock on the 3rd gen?

The 265.70/16 are roughly 10.5" iirc right?
The 285/75/16 I am looking at measure roughly 11.3" wide.

I see some of you guys running the 285 and have no issues.
Now since I will be getting a pickup to ride on the trails, Tess will not be on the trails as much.
So Could I squeeze buy with the 285s?

by the way if your curious as to teh tire it will be teh genral brabber AT

i was really worried new rims would be next on my every expanding truck budget, but they are ok on my 96 even with the longer OME shocks. there is rub but the wheel can spin easily. it has a kind of card in your bicycle spokes feel. this picture is at full droop and thats the only time the uca and the tire will get close. these are treadwright MTG 285/75/16. a wider tire would needed spacers

Avy, im pretty sure without any aftermarket arms, you could do a 325 tire, that however means you get a 9" wheel with some backspacing, then, and then height is in question

talking about a 325/60r16 or something, 33x13

anything can fit with the right wheel, trimming will be needed where applied with the backspacing and tire i presume

Well I got a friend that will help me out with getting the truck to pass ;-)

So I will be going with 285/75/16 tires and doing a wheelers 1/4" spacer.
That should be sufficient enough to clear the UCAs

Now just to decided on a off road tire and on road tire...
