Ok, we've reached the point in the summer where daytime temp is sitting somewhere between 90-100, with no fear of getting to 107 or above (like yesterday). Anyone recommend switching to a thicker oil or should I stick with the 10w-30? I've personally never switched oil weights, thus the question being asked. Gracias.

I have always used 5w-30 no matter what but the temp rarely goes above 100.

You should never be using anything thicker than 10W-30 in any Toyota motor unless you're racing. In fact where you are, you probably could even use 5W-30 year round as Paul mentioned and it might even help your fuel economy a bit too. I use 10W-30 in the summer months and 5W-30 the rest of the year.

Ditto, I always run 5w30 year round. I usually ran 5w30 in the summer when I lived in AZ, just get a good oil. I stick to synthetic.

if you run conventional 10w30 is fine for hot summers.but swith to 5w30 for winters. if you run syn then either one year round is ok.. mobile 1 syn in 10w30 is actually thinner at running temp than the 5w30.. check stat sheets on the oil of your choice's web page to verify. if you live down south where its hot most of the year and mild winters 10w30 is fine.. its really your choice

Guess I'll just stick with the 10w30. I think come winter time though, I'll try the 5w30 and see how that works come winter.

Gracias amigos.

Good thread, switching back to 10w 30. Thanks for starting this thread.
