Having been around the net long enough, I am quite familiar with the common "mods" to customize different rigs. Having a 3.4 in the truck, I was quite familiar with the standard 4" deckplate mod for increased performance. Since my truck was having issues running, I thought I would go whole hog. If 4" is good, 8" is at least twice as good.

So, start with the hole. If you look closely, something is missing, you shouldn't be able to see axle from here.

Then do the hotrod thing, chop and channel. The sender/pump got a 3" drop all around.

Finally, fill the holes with things that fit. I used a metric crap load of black FIPG. Who would have thought Toyota would make a gasket for an 8" deckplate?

Now I have even more Taco parts on my truck. Performance improvement was astonishing. It now runs and drives like a stock 3rd Gen instead of sitting around like an old tractor.

Looks like his fuel cell is outside instead of inside now (thought it used to be inside). The deckplate gives him access to the pump and other gizmos.

oh ok got ya... but still wondering why the pickup was dropped is that for steep angles or something?

Since the pump wasn't made specifically for the fuel cell, lengthening it gave him the proper depth for fuel pick up.

It was never in the truck.

He had the "aftermarket option" before.

It did cute things like stop running.

Toyota stuff bolted to toyota stuff is always the best course of action.

Where are the pics of the "cover for deep water" that go with the deckplate mod?

The cell has always been under the body, between the frame rails and behind the rear axle.

I used to have a Carter P5000 external pump. I killed two of those in 1 year and 5500 miles.

This summer, it warmed up and I started having an intermittant starting problem. It culminated in a stopping in traffic problem that resulted in me pushing it across 4 lanes of rush hour one morning.

Thankfully, there was a wrecked Taco at work. I stole the pump and sender, adjusted the height for my 9" deep cell and so far so good.

The deckplate lets me get to it without dropping the cell from the truck.

It took me a day and a half to get this working.
