I was going to run my coax for the CB, and was wondering if there were any holes on the body I could run the coax through?

The antenna is mounted on the rear hatch, and I don't want to just in into the back cargo area..and then behind the plastic.

i ran mine up through the rear cargo vent on the left side, just behind the left wing of the rear bumper. from there i ran it through all the necessary panels.

i can grab a pic if you so desire.

back in a few!

ok here are the pictures.

first i mounded mine higher than yours, no big deal though.

take your cable and feed it back through the gap between the bumper and body. you will have to pull the black plastic door sill out of the way, its just clips, and just get it enough to put the cable through.

crawl under the vehicle. in this shot, the vent opening is right where the gleam is coming off of my bumper, its covered by a piece of rubber (couldnt get a picture because of the tight space, but you can reach your hand up in there and feel it.) in this pic the white plastic just below the cable in the center is the edge of the vent.

now you will have to pop off the interior cargo panel, along with the rear seat belt trim, rear door sill, front door sill and front seat belt trim. its alot of parts to come off but its the right way to do it!

my cable runs parallel to the red cable until it reaches the rear seat. the red cable splits towards the center, but the coax goes straight back under all the interior panels.

took me about 2 hours grand total, but i had taken apart the vehicle many many times. might take you a bit longer, but totally worth it!

I have my antenna in the same spot. Remove the taillight and put the cable through the existing grommet. From there you are behind the interior panels and you can run it all the way to the front.

Ahh.. I should have thought to take the tail light out and check for one! Thanks

Well.. I'm almost done now. At least as far as running the cable. I'm trying to take some pictures as I go along. I'm about to drill my dash now.. for the Cobra 75.

I waited until after I started to start taking pics.. so I went back and pulled some of the interior panels out of the way to snap some pics... so they won't be as good as they could have been.

Here's is where I'm going to install the mount bracket for the quick connect to use with the 75...

The area below the cig lighter, next to the 12v outlets. I'll tkae some more photos when I'm done and post up.

Thanks for the help guys.

I meant to ask.. you mounted that antenna bracket to the tail light itself? I wasn't sure if I should put mine there or not.. didn't know if I'd end up introducing moisture into it; also didn't know if it'd be strong enough..

I ended up mounting below it even though that puts the coax scratching the plastic part of the bumper alittle.

no my screws are still in the sheetmetal, not the plastic, i just mounted my lower left screw where your upper right screw is. if you look at my pic, you can actually see the other 2 screw holes lower than the bracket, where i origionally had mine, and where you have yours.

you need to mount it to metal.

Yeah I noticed just now that yours is still mounted to metal, and seen your old screw holes. thanks

-edit-

And for the record..

I was going to wait until I got some good coax, and the (possibly) Magnum 257 radio to install.. but I'm board. Obviously I probably should mount the 75 where I am since I'm drilling a hole in part of the dash.. but oh well! I can always buy a new peice from eBay..junkyard... or one of you guys if I catch someone with woodgrain parting out their runner.

+1 for running it behind taillight and through existing grommet.

Well it's taking longer than expected.

First had to stop for dinner.. then I used my step-dad's Craftsman drill to drill out the two small screw holes for the bracket that holds the quick connect. Then I dug the biggest drill bit I had out of my tool box.. to drill the hole for the quick connect itself to push through. Unfortunately his drill didn't take that big of a bit. So I had to go get my DeWalt.. that I let him borrow before he got the Craftsman. Well.. the batteries and charger were missing... so then I had to wait on him to get out of the shower to find where they were! And even that bit wasn't big enough so I used some sand paper to get it big enough.. and man that was a PITA...

It didn't turn out 'perfect', but it came out good no less.

Finding a place for the control box is my current problem.. there's a lot of plugs and wires behind the center dash.. so theres no real place to put it.. :\

If anyone has a schematic of the fuse box on the inside of the 4runner they could post that would be very helpful. I need to find one thats 12v to wire to the CB. I'm not looking to hook it up to the battery. I don't have a manual to look in and see... but after I post this I'll go some searches to see if I can't find the answer myself.

And.. it's pretty much dark now.. so that too is slowing me down!! Hopefully I'll be done before 10! Haha.. Then I'll post up all the pics and whatnot.

i ran mine under the weatherstripping (pull it up, then silicone it back down), through the back panel (driver side), down the panel by the rear seats, open the rear door threshold (screws), run it under there, up through the panel by the seatbelts, then i ran mine under my drivers seat through the console to my cb which sits in my ashtray

Update:

Pulled one of the 15 amp spare fuses from the engine bay and plugged it and the wire from CB into an unused slot on the fuse box.

Everything works... except the fact I need to get an SWR meter and check the antenna..

The 75 I think is only useful on the trail, but I didn't have any activity on this thing and I live right next to the highway.... but maybe it's my antenna.

those numbers are the amps of the fuse.

Yeah.. I'm dumb. Amps was my 2nd guess..

Here's a half assed write up of what I did:

I need to take some better photos. Once I do that I could turn it into a real write-up I suppose... well better pictures and some better descriptions of what was going on.
