Today I ditched the stock FJ80 coils I have been running. They made my rear end way too soft...they were replaced with OME 860's. Came out good, and feels much better...

Some day I may do a leaf sway in the rear, but this should do for now

Curious to know how flexy it is still... How much stuff were you carrying in the back (est. extra weight?) I've yet to install my Cruiser coils and don't want too much sag, nor too tall (still IFS).

In both pics the back is basically empty. The stock fj80 coils gave me lift, but were so soft that on/off ramps and Mtn roads were scary. I thin it is more balanced with the front now.

I will find out about the flex next weekend in Big Bear.

Looks good! Evens it out with the front now.

What year 80 coils did you have and were you running them with no anti sway bars? Just curious because mine are soft but not nearly that soft, also I am running my rear sway bar still(front has been gone for ever). I can still do corners like this even with gear on top.

I was running two of the longer side coils (gas tank side) with no sway bar. It felt real loose in the back. and would cause bad leaning around turns and even when taking off. the Detroit would lock up and throw the passenger side up....

Anyone want some flexy coils??

lol, after following Phalanx down from Big Bear, I decided to live with my rear sway bar. Just watching his lean back and forth could have made someone sea sick.

As high as he is now would he have to make longer end links for the sway bar if he put it back on?

Just wondering if with that much lift would it effect the usefulness of a a sway bar.

I have never removed my rear sway bar. It does not seem to hinder travel at all. Maybe 2nd gens are different

Longer links (or a spacer where the bar mounts to the frame) would probably help if he put it back on. I am actually surprised that my links are still okay, I think they are at about the max.

Mine doesn't seem to hinder my flex at all. It has no problem stuffing and drooping, usually something else will hinder it (i.e upper link hitting gas tank, driveshaft versus gas tank, etc...) I am sure it does free it up a little bit, but since I also tow my trailer, I will keep mine on.

His looks good now, wish I could make BB and June lake, so I could check it out.

You'll definitely be taller in the back but I wouldn't worry about it being too soft. Loaded down with gear you'll be just right.

Marc, that leaning pic is amazing. All because of the locker, huh?

When I had IFS I never took off my rear sway bar and I had plenty of flex back there. Eventually, I'd like to add sway bars front and rear again.

Most of the time I was IFS my rear sway bar was on, with the sas I went with adjutable upper links so I could adjust the pinion angle up to the proper angle.

I tried putting the rear sway bar back on a few months a ago, but the links had to go in at an angle...I dont think it will work.

Plus with my setup, I would need front and rear to make a difference. If I had to drive mine all the time I might think about it

Hey Mark, glad that 860 works out for you.
You can just add a spacer between the sway bar mount and the sway bar bracket. I'm thinking about a disco in the front now....
BB mountain road still can use some taming.

Oh wait, Detroits have OTHER drawbacks?

I would be happy to show some super bodyroll, but that is pretty rough for what you've got.

Looks good on the height.

I used to love those coils but would be afraid to run that much height and a panhard in that configuration.4

The 860's are great on and off-road. I am not leaning bad anymore, and it feels well balanced. With the adjustable panhard bar (thanks again Adrian) I was able to center things up good....

Seth,
all fixed up? Did they take care of you? Just curious.

I didn't notice how high the front of your runner was before you swapped the rear coils, Marc.  It looks nice and even now!

Eric,

They ordered the shock. Had the wrong output for teh resevoir. Mine was 90 degree. This one was straight.

I'm more patient than most.
