Did a little family wheeling trip yesterday. Did two trails. First we did Movie Road/Alabama Hills which is just outside of Lone Pine, CA. A lot of old western movies have been shot out in this area. Pretty cool rock formations. On our way out we drove up to Mt. Whitney. (As far as you can drive, that is.) Easy overall, well graded roads with good upkeep. I did go off the beaten path though and had a moderate hill climb that was rutted out and caused a couple wheels to float at times. It did struggle a bit but did make it.

After that we headed up to Bishop. Got some Veggie sandwiches at Schat's and hung out at the park. (Those who know what Schat's is will appreciate that.) Just outside of Bishop there is the Silver/Wyman Canyon trail. Trail climbs some rocky, super steep switch backs up the mountain into the ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Goes from 4000ft at the valley floor to just over 11000ft. Used Low range a lot with the center diff. locked. No problems though. Trail was just under 30 miles long. We took some side trips though and probably totaled 50 miles all together. Got off the trail right at dusk. Trail comes out just 11 miles from the Nevada border. All together the trail had 28 water crossings. Not that deep though, they ranged from 6-12" deep. Was a really nice trial though, I would definitely recommend it. Headed out and finished the day off with Pizza at the Pizza Factory in Lone Pine. Good day for sure.
