I am trying to install a https://secure48.mysecureorder.net/offroadonly/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=55&products_id=220&osCsid=f138f2b2d5d9acce7a7a24f226f9d22b"]ORO (http://"[url) LitePlate[/URL] to my new rear bumper. There are three wires that come out of the LED unit, 1 ground (BLACK), one tail (GREEN) and one brake line (RED).
Here is a pic:

Following the directions (for a Jeep) I first grounded the unit (Black) to the frame. Then I spliced in to one of my OEM plate lights wiring and took the white/green wire and connected that to the Green cable. I then spliced into my trailer wire control unit (easy way to figure out the brake wire) and connected that to the red brake light. (I spliced in prior to the control unit)

Ok so all that is done... sweet! Test it out. Everything works. Great! Go and start up the truck and pop, pop.... blew both the 10 amp fuses for the tail and brake lights. I then went and checked every splice (soldered) and grounding... all were clean and clear. So until I figure this out I just cut all wires to keep me street legal (kind of).

I called ORO, no help there. The LED's take such as small amperage It has to be the grounding... but I am grounding to the frame... hmmm.

The odd part is that it works fine on the battery alone, but once the truck is running it blows the fuses. It was a nice sense of false completion.

Any suggestions?

OK - what do the directions say for what the connections should be made to specifically. (ie black - ground, green/white parking light wire 12v?, red to brake 12v light wire?)

Sounds like you need to isolate it with a diode (even though LED's are diodes themselves)

Ok, while installing the rear camera today I re-worked the issue and grounded to the ground prior to the trailer control box... a quick "drive way run up" and it tested out good. I will have to take it out for a spin after I get the remaining camera's installed tomorrow.
