View Full Version : Best suspension option for onroad/stock height use?

I have a 2002 4runner that is in need of a new suspension. I don't plan on taking this truck off road at all, and don't want to lift it either (if possible). I have done some searching and have come up with trekmasters as the best option for me in terms of shocks. But I'm not sure with what springs I should go with?

I see Steve has a kit for a 2" lift which has everything and I'm leaning towards that one right now. But I was wondering if there was a better option out there for me that kept the truck at stock height?

thanks in advance.

What is the reason for a new suspension?

ome coils front and rear over new shocks. no need to go crazy spending money if you dont want much lift if any. you can get front ome's that are 1.5" and rears that are 2". this will give you a nice ride too.

the truck has about 70k miles on it. A few years back I had put sway-away coil overs on it, and had an OME suspension in the rear. I had removed all of that, and sold it and placed used suspension components that I had purchased from others to bring it back to stock. Right now it bounces all over the place, the shocks don't absorb any bumps at all.

DO you think the OME's will offer a smoother ride as compared to the tundra springs? The most important thing to me is a smoother ride. I'm willing to lift the truck the 2" if it means going with the tundra springs to get the better ride.

I really like the way mine is set up with the OME's front and rear (the height gain was minimal, it sits with about 1/2-3/4" of rake which is just perfect even when loaded....I didn't want more than 1.5" of lift since I didn't want larger tires than the 265/70R16's that came on it stock). If you're doing any offroad, then just swap out the OME shocks for the Trekmasters.

There's a few....

Toyota of Dallas - http://www.trdparts4u.com/
Wheelers - http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/ome4runner.htm

if i were you id try just replacing the rear shocks. see if that solves your bounce.

if not then purchase the rest :)

Thanks for the help guys.

I shot a pm off to trdpartsforu, and am waiting for a reply.
wheeler's off road came in a bit high.
A few of the other websites had it priced at $615 for the whole sha-bang.

Hopefully I can get this ordered by tomorrow and then start fixing the other things on this truck.

thanks for the advice guys, I ended up going with toyta of dallas b/c they had most parts in stock. The rest they're having drop shipped from ARB. I ended up with OME suspension all around, same as Jamie's set up.

That's what I would have done. Springs don't wear out. They might settle a little, but their spring rate never changes significantly. Shocks are what damps the bounce, the springs don't have anything to do with that. Depending on what your definition of what a "good ride", the stock springs would have been the most comfortable.

I didn't have the stock springs off my truck. I purchased used springs from people on yotatech. I figured I'd just start with a clean slate

I think you're really going to like that setup compared to what you have now.
