Well i checked and the skids were actually not in the way. 30.5" from diff. flange to transfer case flange. Hope that helps.

yeah i did flange to flange
01-02 have longer transmissions
i have 01 2wd tranny coupled with inchworm 5:1 case, however I did use a stock 01 4wd dshaft, i have a 3 inch thick adapter inside the case which makes it bigger then stock, so im not sure how long my front shaft is gonna have to be.

You don't need a compressed and extended measurement. IFS diffs stay still. A ride height measurement should be enough, if that ends up close, finding out how close they sit to full compression just so you don't end up with the thing fully compressed for driveline twist.
I thought the rear of the front third extended past the skid plate. I can't believe no one can go out easily and put a tape to this.

so def not fully compressed then, cuz yeah it does torque a little as you noticed.
ill keep looking for 4runners at used dealers to go measure.

My '96 (manual) sits at 26 1/4" I.D. flange to flange.
