I picked up a new 2007 4runner the other day but didn't opt for the factory alarm. The dealer said they install alarms in all their cars for insurance reasons but if I didn't want it they could take it off easily. Now that I have it home I've been reading the manual and playing with the truck a little. The truck still has key less entry, auto down rear window and panic button capabilities via the factory key fob.
Now it seems to me that since it's so easy for the dealer to remove the alarm but yet still retain things mentioned above, that the alarm is built into the computer and it's just a matter of flipping a switch or hacking something. I did notice a little black thing, which could have been the alarm LED or something, down by the driver's kick panel. It's not there anymore. The salesman did confirm that it was for the alarm, but didn't say exactly what it was.
Anybody have any insight into this? Is there a known solution for this?
