I've been wanting to install HID driving lights, but the Hella HID's are way too expensive. I decided to try one of those inexpensive kits off ebay. For $80 it was worth the gamble.....
As for construction it seems well made, but there was no label to say where they were produced.

edit* they are made in Japan

Installing bulbs was a simple plug n' play

Since the kit came with grommets, I decided to drill a new hole into the housing, this way I still have the option to use standard H1 bulbs....

Ballast mounted, double sided tape that was supplied with the kit plus I added a hose clamp for extra hold down. Spliced and soldered wiring....

Now for the testing, them things are BRIGHT! Sorry no pictures...they came out all white :flipoff:

Does your engine tolerate the drain better with the HID's?

Bruce, do you know what ebay vendor you got those from? Also, are those 35W and H3? Thanks.

This was the seller I got it from
AUTOLUMINATE (http://"http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H1-H3-H4-H7-H11-9005-9006-9007-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-XENON_W0QQitemZ170155209327QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3647 6QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem")

I chose him because he had the better customer rating and is located near me in Los Angeles, also his kits have a 2 year warranty, but you know how these ebay companies are......

Also found out that the kit is made in Japan

for Hella 4000 you'll need the H1 kit and for the Hella 500 the H3 kit.

When I was over at Kartek I noticed the ballast used in the Hella HID 4000's looked identical to the one's I got from eBay. Considering they only pull 35w. yes I'd say they are tolerated much better......

here's the thread at TTORA, several people over there have done this conversion.....

Thanks, I'm actually going to be doing a conversion on my lightforce lights, but wanted to know which company you went with (that was the one I was looking at, so that's good to know). I'll get another thread going for the lightforce conversion, as it won't be so plug and play, but it doesn't look too bad. :hillbill:

Edit: Thanks Bruce, I ordered a set last night. H3 and 5000K This will be fun.

Any chance you can take a pic of the new bulbs and maybe measure them? I'm wondering if I can squeeze these into a set of PIAA 520s.
