I just got my 99 4runner 3.4L, so what toyota oil filter is the best?
I know I'm using the bigger 90915-YZZD3 on my 05 Tacoma and it also fits my 05 Highlander, but will it fit the 3.4L too?

I'm not trying to be an ass but are you telling us something or asking a question? Maybe it's lack of sleep but your post confuses the hell out of me. :headscratch:

I'm confused as well. Are you saying that the same filter fits all 3 vehicles? I use a Jeep liberty filter on my 4Runner. And if they all fit and have super dooper micron filtration what is the price breakdown per unti if purchased in a case?

docktortal, I rephrased the original question a bit for you from a post you made somewhere else.

Otherwise, Purolator makes pretty good oil filters AFAIK, and there is an oversized filter that can be used on the 3.4l V-6. I'm quite sure this thread covers everything you want to know:
Andy's Bigger Oil Filter Thread (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=48.msg9688)
(Mods, Andy's thread really needs to be stickied btw, the information in it is extremely valuable.)
I am a big fan of the Napa Gold filters.

I'm not sure if the larger filter will fit, but check the rubber seals against each other physically, you should be able to tell right away if they line up and if the filters are interchangeable. Then as long as they use the same threads and size for the screw on inlet portion, you'll be fine. Alot of different makes and models do use common sizes so it pays to check sizes since you can often substitute a larger filter for an OEM size and get better filtering and oil pressure in the process.
So to figure that out I go to the NAPA site and I get this info:
2005 Highlander OEM filter for 3.3L motor
Height (Inches):3.404
Height (mm):86.46mm
O.D. (Inches):2.921
O.D. (mm):74.19mm
Thread Size (inches):3/4-16
Gasket O.D. (Inches):2.734
Gasket O.D. (mm):69.44mm
Gasket I.D. (Inches):2.43
Gasket I.D. (mm):61.72mm
2005 Tacoma OEM filter for 4.0L motor
Height (Inches):3.404
Height (mm):86.46mm
O.D. (Inches):2.921

Thread Size (inches):3/4-16
Gasket O.D. (Inches):2.734
Gasket O.D. (mm):69.44mm

1999 4Runner OEM filter for 3.4L motor
Height (Inches):3.404

So it would appear the answer to your question is yes, you can use it.
If you want a filter that performs better than the OEM filter, then you should have a look in Andy's thread as Brian Suggested here:

If you look at what Wix has for applications on the Taurus filter:
http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51516
......there's alot more that use the exact same one:

Amsoil are good, but I'm gonna have to say that Purolator PureOne are one of the best, especially considering their price. I did a lot of research on this a while back and the Purolator PureOne filters better than a Mobil1 filter costing twice as much.
I use the PureOne in all my vehicles.

How much better do you feel the PureOne is over the Mobil 1...and what's the price difference? I currently run the M1-209, but may consider changing if it's worth it.

I did a lot of research on this a while back. Here's the number I got directly from the engineers at Mobil1 and Purolator:
Purolator PureOne Efficiency:
30 micron 98%
20 Micron 96%
10 Micron 85%
Mobil1 Efficiency:
30 Micron 97%
20 Micron 85%
No rating for 10
You can judge for yourself how much better the Purolator is. As for cost it's about half what the Mobil1 costs.

Interesting...
Thanks Speedy. May be looking into the Purolator PureOne come next oil change.
By chance do you know the part # for particular filter that fits our 4Runners?
