My 98 Ltd has 150k on it. Tranny fluid is new (drain and refil, not powerflush) within the last 3 months.

In the mornings (it is not cold yet, roughly 65* ), tranny takes a long time to shift up.
It used to shift into top at the top of my street, now it takes another mile or so although I can coax it to shift on occasion by getting out of the gas rapidly.

I am aware there is a temp sensor and I alos recall reading a similar thread many moons ago but cannot locate it.

Is the AT temp switch my most likely culprit ???

David.

P.S> Got some nice pics I am getting ready to post of my low cost on board air set up

Well, it will hesitate and hold 1st gear longer when it is colder, to get engine temps up. Thats just a fact, if it holds gear logner now than before, it coupld possibly just be colder, but could also be a temp sensor.

Thanks for your comments. This is my 5th 4runner so I am well used to the tranny's shift patterns. This is a fairly recent step change in the delay in shifting into top and it has happened when the air temps are over 75* in the morning.

I am going to reset the Tranny ECM in case it has 'learned' this behaviour for some reason as I really don't want to replace the temp switch if it is not necessary.

Try pulling the neg cable for a few minutes, and then just hooking it back up, the ECU will forget what it has learned, and maybe it will forget this. :)
