Had the lift installed about 3 weeks ago. As you can tell, i'm lazy, and I'm just now posting pics. The lift is the Sonoran Steel system 1 lift, the wheels are fzj80 wheels pc'ed black chrome, and 295/75r16 Nitto Terra grapplers.
Here's an old before pic:
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s124/rocktownwhat/118_1859.jpg
Now, with the SS #1 lift, 1" bl and 295 tires:

The lift is awesome, it rides and handles much better than stock, and the parts that Steve at Sonoran Steel fabricates are top notch. The tires are much more quiet on the road than i expected. Hopefully i'll take some wheelin pics tomorrow, driveway pics suck. Let me know what you think about the new improvements.
Edit: couple more pics:

It's not really anything special just yet, compared to alot of the 4runners on UY, but I love it. There is alot more i would like to do to it. But, money is tight and mods come slow for me. I have the center caps for the wheels, i just have to sand them down and paint them to match. The next things on the list are sliders, a full size spare and a hi-lift, so i can go do some real wheeling. Oh, and the skid plate is MIA in the pics, its on now and probably looks a little better.
 Looks real good. the powder coated rims are a nice change for those wheels.
Looking real nice, I like the color choice on the wheels!

5 years after production ended, and 3rd gens still don't look "old" to me.
well, after some mods anyway.

Are those the Nittos? I am going to get the 295/75 Terragrapplers for my next set, do you have any rubbing issues? I wont have a body lift.

I would imagine they would rub alot more without a body lift. Even with the body lift they still rub on the stock rear bumper at full stuff. Also, the front rubs the frame at full lock. It's not that bad, in the future i'll just remove the rear limited mud flaps to help out the rub on the rear bumper.

imho, joe's build up is alot like mine: functional, sharp, but low key.
joe: you did an awesome job. and great choice on the vendor (sonoran steel). steve is definitely the go-to guy.

Don't get me wrong it is nice.
What's throwing me off I think is the rims and the lack of roof rack (just use to seeing it, I guess)

Thanks Bob i appreciate your comments.
The lack of roof rack and rear wind deflector are rare. Mine is one of the few that does not have these two options. It doesn't really bother me, the lack of roof rack and deflector should cause better mpg's than if i had the rack. Plus, i like that it looks simpler and cleaner. My bike and snowboard fit nicely in the trunk, so no need for me to have a rack.
the more I look at this, the more I like it, lol....

i think the lift and tires themselves look great but i don't really like bald roofs. factory roof rails at least compliment the lift a little better. different look though, props man

You got a write-up or pics of how you did that LandCruiser grill? This is something I've wanted to do with my Tacoma. You're the only person that I've seen with the same idea!
I'm not sure if I've figured out the best way to do it, so I want to see how YOU did it.

what gears do you have in there and how is highway driving with those tires?
rocktown
11-13-2007, 03:38 PM
I believe the gearing on 'most' e-locked runners is 4.30, although i have never checked to verify that. Someone chime in and correct me if i'm wrong. With the 295's, it's obviously a little slower, but there is still plenty of power. It still moves really well. The slight loss in power is tolerable with the 295's, any bigger and i'd want to regear to 4.88s.

I know for some it had options but mine is VZN185L-GKPZKA and the vin says it came with the P265/70R16. That means I should have the 4.30.

i agree Steve has some nice stuff and is a good guy, but he took his rear lower control arms off the market for fj's and 4runners. supposedly its because someone asked why they are better than allpro's control arms :shake:. it shouldnt even be a question why his arms are better. BTW i have toytec's control arms sliders and beat the snot outa them and they are the balls . i was a step away from ordering Steve's control arms.
i call BS on him actually pulling it for that reason. offer up some proof.
id take his rear arms over "sliders" any day.

Here you go.
I am curious as to how these are an improvement over the old when they are still using old Toyota stock bushings.
Granted I am no expert, but I am loving the old design ones I have, great flex in the rear and O SO BEEFY.
I have landed them on rocks a few good times...
