I was hit by a 92' 2500 Dodge Cummings
His bumper was pretty banged up but not as much as Tess....

We were both able to drive away from the scene and no on was hurt.

So it was a good and bad situation...

And for the Record:

That sucks dude. I don't know about you but what I refer to as "urban wheeling" (DD) is much more risky than anything I do offroad.. And you've seen my vids and pics :hillbill:. Who's fault was it? Is insurance going to fix it or are you gonna leave it and spend the money on offroad crap?

YotaFun
10-12-2007, 07:17 PM
I think it was a fault on both parties, but since he hit me, I think it is going to be his fault.

Insurance will cover it I am sure,
She will get fixed to a better state, and then I will get sliders and the lift put on and take her out after I get her back from the shop,

Which I feel will be some time mid winter.....

Avy, man that sucks!!! I know how much she means to you!! I am sorry to see this happen!!! I hope you get her back before too long!! I know you hate driving Mom's Lexus. Is the guy that hit you giving you any crap about you laying it on his insurance?

Good luck getting Tess fixed and back out all nice and shinny!! TJ

Here are some day time picks of the damage before I took her too the shop, Just so you all can get a little better idea of the damage.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/Accident/DSC03404.jpg

So she went in, and you know what I don't fear for her safety.
The shop I dropped her off at had me a little intimidated cause what I saw parked in a row was:
2007 Toyota 4Runner V8 Sport Edition
Porsche 911
BMW 5 series
Porsche Cayanna Turbo

Then when I walked in the garage
BMW X5
Acura RSX
Acura CL
2007 Honda Civic
BMW 7 Series

Then I looked at my truck and was like, Dang, I'm old....

So that was all good, I knew people who spent money came here :D
And I don't have to pay a dime hehehe

But then The day went down hill with not just rain, but this....
Which is now gracing its ram'ness in my driveway...

Yes that is a Dodge Caliber.
It is so plain and blah.
The 2.0L is something to be desired, oh so little power....
The auto trans is so weird, I can't feel the shift points, and there is only one gear pass drive which is Low.
The dash is so plain, the base model corolla has more bells and whistles than this thing.
It has the feel of and SUV in the seating, yet is a car.
The dash has no tach, and I don't like that, I am just use to a tach.
The stereo system is also something to be desired. A stock 3rd gen system in a 97' sounds better than this thing.
And the blind spots, MY GOD THE BLIND SPOTS!
So that is my car & driver review of the Dodge.

I hope the truck is done soon...

Well I got the final numbers both cost and time estimate back from the body shop...
Needless to say its not pretty.
I don't case so much the cost as too the damage.

SO Final Cost, Over 4K, he said 4 Thousand something, but I kind of fainted after just hearing 4 thousand.

So Final Damages:
Obviously the Rear Quarter and the Driver side Read door...
But here is were it gets really bad....
I need An entirely new Rear end.
Which consists of everything from the Axle to god only knows what else.
I presume all suspension components and such...

Schedule date of return..... NOVEMBER 21ST!!!!

So this has just been on very fun filled experience....

Yeah I know....
I am just praying I get her back soon,
We are already suppose to get a dusting of snow up here this Thursday...
I wanted to have the truck back before any snow fell....
Oh well....
I am going to go to the shop some time Friday and see if they have even taken her apart yet or not, and ask them if I can document the repairs for personal sake...

Okay All you Toyota Guru's
I have a question.

Some proposed to me the idea of asking the body shop to replace the axle with one with the e-locker installed (mind you I still have to find out if the 3rd is going to be replaces as well)

I would pay the difference for the e-locker equipped axle of course.

But my question is besides the e-locker itself, what is needed?

When I was moving my ECT and Rear Window button to the dash location I noticed that there were a few connection behind the panel attached to nothing.

Could one of those two plugs be for the e-locker and the other for clutch start cancel if I had a manual tranny?

And if so does that mean that I am already wired up for the e-locker and all I would have to do is get it installed and get it plugged in?

If not, how much is the harness if I had to get that as well?

Just trying to get a few more mods in during the down time and while i have the opportunity.

They will most likely swap the whole axle housing so you can probably talk them into using an e-locker axle. I don't know about the wiring but from what I understand it's not hard to wire up either way.

Well I have good news and bad news.

Bad News:
Probably gonna be an extra week on the truck.
They didn't like the first rear they got so they ordered another one, but forgot to order the one equipped with an e-locker, so good thing I called today to get everything verified, what makes me a little pissed about all of this is the guy over the phone was like "OH! Why didn't you say that when you dropped off the truck, we could have done that for you!", In return if I had been there in person I would have slapped him in the face and go, "Hey numb nuts, remember, I didn't know the ENTIRE axle had to be replaced." But I didn't do such cause you know what they are doing a lot for me as it is and I am greatly appreciative of it all.

Good News:
I am getting a E-Locker for only $200-$300.
I would have to do all the wiring myself and that nonsense but I already have the parts sources and it should cost me another $100 or so to get it wired up and going.

So once with the lift on, New Bigger Tires and different Rims, and Some Sliders, I can start trying some slightly harder stuff.
Well at least anything in the limits of me not busting a CV here or there....
Hmmm, makes me thing, maybe I should start looking for spare CVs now...

Just a little update on Tess
She is almost done.
Body work is done, I stopped by the shop today and ask if I could take a look at it.
They walked me out and I almost cried...
Its been over 3 weeks now since I haven't had her in my possession so...
There were of course a few issues I pointed out well one really that the guaranteed me that it will be resolved (the door didn't look to be aligned right), they also said that they would do a full detail before I get her back.

So anyway the reason for the delay is..... The E-Locker.....
They are having trouble tracking one down (surprise surprise)
They have a hit on one in Texas! TJ wanna help me out man lol!
Just playin, they will call me tomorrow on word if they could get it or not.
But she is almost back to me, just need that 3rd in!!

The wait is worth it right... Yeah it is... Why am I questioning such a thing?

Well good news.
They were able to get the locker in Texas.

Should be here earliest Friday, latest Monday.
So god willing the truck should be back in my hands by Tuesday, latest Wednesday.

Then its just a matter of getting all the harnesses and such and viola, Locker :D

how was it damaged? Did they say?

YotaFun
12-06-2007, 01:50 PM
They did not say but what I am figuring is that there looking not just for the 3rd but the entire axle, and they keep getting bent or warped axles.

Thats the only thing it could be cause hell, I have read up on the mod, I am sure i can print it out and they can find a good regular axle and a good 3rd and cut and viola be done.

04 Rocko Taco
12-06-2007, 01:59 PM
I would ask them about it, if they are getting bad axles, or bad 3rds or what the issue is.... Ask them also what they are doing with the "damaged" third they have now... lol.

Seanz0rz
12-06-2007, 08:54 PM
seriously avy, that mod is more than what it looks like.

at this point i would just get my vehicle back with the stock axle that was in it, or with a new open diff axle, and maybe go with an arb setup or an elocker at a later date.

YotaFun
12-07-2007, 06:49 AM
I am going to find out, but yeah at this point i guess my blessing in disguise was only a fairy tail...

Avy, make sure that they check out the rear drive shaft. It could be bent also, I'm not trying to prolong your time away from your gal, but if that's bent just a little it will be out of balance, and you will have viberation.

You will keep thinking it's tires but that drive shaft has to be straight or balanced. TJ

Reviving a thread I thought I could let dust start forming on.
I have to take the truck back to the shop.
I am giving them an ultimatum/warning Monday that I am bringing in the truck Tuesday.

First the truck seemed fine when I got it back.
All up until I left of a light, going a little hard cause there was a merge ahead (PA is weird, don't ask lol) and I got an nice loud BANG!
I was like WTF!?!
So I turned the truck around and went back to tell them.
Since there was no mechanics there that day they told me to come back Monday (this was the Saturday before new years).
So I drive it around that weekend, and then bang only happen here and there.
So Monday rolls around and I drive the truck there.
Of course when the mechanic is in the truck with me, she is all nice an quiet.
They took it to the back and put it on the lift but they couldn't see anything.
I told them that there had to be something, I know my truck and I know what sounds it made before and after I got hit, and that wasn't one of them!
So they shop manager said that when the cosmetic part they had to order came in they would take the truck for the day and give me a rental and they would take the truck for the day and give it a good look over.
Well the part hasn't come in yet and the noise has become progressivly worse.

Now at first what I thought my issue was just my contorl arms not torqued enough.
But then someone made the suggestion that the crush sleeve on the pinion bearing wasn't adjusted properly.

Well last night on my way to my girlfriends I noticed a slight clicking an grinding noise.
And it got progressively worse when I applied the breaks.
Then as I finally got home the truck would freaking vibrate itself to pieces when I applied the breaks, and I could feel the vibrations coming from both the front and the rear.

So me thinks that there is something wrong with the rear brakes that has now cause my front to warp :-D
No there is no gear oil so we can rule out axle seal factor.
So me thinks its something to do with the brakes themselves.

I am going to include the parts list and see if anyone can make heads or tails of what they replaced that it could be....
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/scan0001.gif
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/scan0002.gif
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/scan0003.gif

So if anyone can guess please give me an idea so I can point the shop in the right direction.
When I take it in Tuesday I am also telling them that they better replace my front rotors too or they can gladly see me in Claims court :-D

I have had enough of this bull****.
I want my truck to function!

The shop guarantees there work.
So I can take the truck back millions of times till its done to my satisfaction.
I just want an idea from to Toyota gurus of what it could be so I don't go in looking like an idiot.

Its not neccesarily something they replaced, keep that in mind. It may just be that thier "reassembly" job was crap. it may be an OE part installed wrong that is giving you problems. Tell the shop if they cant fix it to satisfaction, you will have the dealer do it, and the shop can foot the bill.
be polite, but be heard.
