Here are some pictures I took on Friday 10/12 before I left. As I was leaving Friday night I got pulled over on the beach for driving 30 in 15, well they let me go with a warning after half-hour of making me wait. His pen didn't work :shake:. I saw a few 4runners going toward camp.

Here is my contribution. Really only took pics at the jump spot, but that was where it all was going down. The Wife and I had an awesome time. It was good meeting everyone and we cant wait for next year.

**** For those who have pics of me jumping, PLEASE email me the hi-res versions of them all. Whether they are good or bad, i want them. I would really appreciate it. TIA. ****

consider yourself lucky: i was driving in with lance going b/n 20 and 25. the beach cop  cited me. i'd take the 1/2 hour wait any day

ticket aside, it was a great trip. i think it goes without saying that slosurfer (chris) put on one helluva show. thanks to jen for doing a bang up job on organizing the kid's gifts and activities and donating her own time and money to buy those cool gifts for them!

it was good to meet up with everyone, especially guys and gals from other forums---something normally forums especially don't do well. i didnt take many pics, but i had a chance to wheel w/ some folks and take some video. ill try to figure out how to get Hi8 to digital asap! :hillbill:

Damn, the beach cops were being hard asses for sure. Gabe, aka Papa_Smurf, aka the guy the the blue FJ was pulled over for speeding and driving into the water. The cop chewed him out for a while and then let him go because it was 4:45 and his shift ended at 5:00 and he wanted to go home. Haha. You got screwed Bob. That sucks.

Here are some of the pictures I took this past weekend.
http://picasaweb.google.com/mezamichael/UltimateYotaPismoTrip2007

I'm new to the site and new to Picasa so bare with me. I had to rush and get these up and me clean before the wife comes home and finds me on the computer and sand all over the house. None of the pictures are watermarked, in any order or captioned. I don't have mad photoshop skillz but I can take out license plate numbers if anyone wants me to. Only 70% of the pictures are on Picasa. I have more but I need to take some time to look through them and I'll update the album. If anyone can't get the high res from the site or wants a copy of the photos let me know.

Thanks again for the fun event, new faces and toyota temptation. Most of my trip was spent behind Paddlenbike and his 4 Runner, thinking about how to get one. I'm still thinking so stay tuned.

Yeah, apparently you cant drive in the water at all. I didnt know that either. Oh well.

It did rain Friday evening/night. I arrived around 530 and began to setup camp. It started raining about half way into putting the tent up. That was kinda fun. Haha. We then hung out in the truck for a while, while it rained pretty good. It let up after 30 minutes or so and we then set up the rest of camp and were able to cook dinner. I went to bed around 900 and it then rained again for a while a little after that. It wasnt too bad though.

i just got back, ill throw up what little pictures i got tomorrow morning when i unpack. i cant believe i made it home on one tank of gas, with out the light coming on either!

anyway, i had SUCH a wonderful time with all of you and its nice to finally put some faces and names with screen names, even though i will forget most before im done with this post!

speaking of beach cops, last night escorting my friend in his ranger back to the pavement, i was doing probably about 20, they pulled in front of me and slowed down. guess i got lucky, he didnt even stop me.

thanks again for putting on a wonderful event! i came more for the people than the sand, the dunes were just a good byproduct of wanting to meet people!

My computer worked great, even while jumping my truck (while no one was looking OF COURSE!), console is nice, but needs to be shortened, and sleeping platform worked beautifully! all in all a great trip, capped off with a wonderful splash cafe bread bowl!!!

and as always, i will end my post with a carnage report.

torn lower plastic valence on front bumper - pulled out and its as good as new besides the tear.
loose bumper bolt on front, fixed.
6 diet dr. pepper cans exploded in the cooler from bouncing around with apparently sharp icecubes.
1 package of tortillas, slightly damp from the cooler.
bruises from sleeping on a plank of wood in the truck.

thanks again guys, i look foward to wheeling with ALL of you again, hopefully very soon!

and as always, i will end my post with a carnage report.

For me:
-What I think is a rear main seal leak appears to still be there although I believe it is has slowed (have to remember to check the oil). At least it didn't get worse.
-Front bumper is tweaked and missing a couple of mounting bolts
-PA speaker is MIA. I had it for awhile but it's gone now.
-Dent in the rear rocker that I'm sure wasn't there before.
-Some front fender "re-tubbing" from my the tires.
-And right now some crazy gas. I should eat a salad.

Oh and half way home I pulled a bunch of sand out of my air cleaner (actually from both sides of the air filter). We'll see if that results in any carnage.

Wow! What a weekend! Everyone, thanks for coming out and enjoying the festivities. You guys are the ones that make it truly enjoyable. I had a blast and I hope I got to meet everyone and chat, and if I missed ya. I'll just have to catch up with ya next year. :D

Huge thanks to Jenn and Justin (JnJ) for getting all the kids stuff together and all your help from the very beginning till the end. Thank you!

Thanks to Bob and Lance, for their organization and help at the event, without you guys I don't think I would have been able to get out and enjoy myself.

Thank you to all our sponsors for the raffle prizes and goodie bags (I think pretty much every vehicle was walking away with something). Remember these guys when it comes time to add parts to your rig. :D

Huge thanks to my wife April for allowing me to plan this. I know at times she thought I was :screwy: but she stuck with me. Thanks, Babe.

Thank you to Edwin from the marlin board, and Matt (one of my general contractors) for bringing out the wood. It took a major effort to burn it all, but we did it. :hillbill:

Thanks to all the others that pitched in and helped, couldn't have done it without ya.

We had a decent turnout for the trail run today, considering we got a late start. We had 6 rigs going out. Me, BruceTS, Nick aka 2WD GUY, MysticZ, MysticZ's guest, and Cabbage. JnJ were also there but parked their motorhome at the trailhead and rode with me and Bruce.

Once we hit the intersection where the 4wd trail meets the 2wd trail, the Mystic group went up to Hi Mtn. Lookout while the rest of us went part way into Garcia Ridge Trail. We had some nice hill climbs and Bruce got to flex out his suspension on some rocks and show us why everyone should have a crawler box.

We came back down and amazingly met back up with the Mystic group who just finished their run. From there we said our goodbyes and headed home. Boy, was I glad to get home. I'll try to get pics up later tonight or tomorrow.

That was my bad on the picture. I was temporarily rendered ineffective and awestruck by how high my woman had just jumped my truck (and it was still rolling). I had to check the camera to make sure I just saw vs. dreamed it when you launched.

I completely understand not necessarily wanting to do it again. There is that temptation to "make a great picture" which can sometimes make a great repair opportunity.

Alrighty, here we go.

Here is the group lined up. We had a lot of spectators for this photo.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_02.jpg

Here are the people behind (or in front of in this case) the machines.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_03.jpg

The images are of a little spot I picked out. It was not the best spot but we got some pictures. Admittedly, this was one of those that started out too steep and mellowed out at the top. It was great if you did not want to catch air but not great if you did. I was to redeem myself soon...

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_15.jpg

We moved on and rambled about. Here, I sought and found "bad jump" redemption. This started out real smooth at the bottom so you could hit it fast with out so much running "in" to it. It had just the right lip at the top.

This was Mike coming down off the top. I'm having timing issues with the digicam. My PDA has an irritating delay and this does not. I was taking pictures too soon but waited too long to take this one.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_16.jpg

This one I took way too soon.. uhg....

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_17.jpg

This one I could have waited a split second longer but you can tell how high this guy is going to go. I think he broke an engine mount on this jump. It was very impressive. His rig still drove out under its own power. Gotta love that.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_18.jpg

My cousin Michael is studying mechanical engineering at Cal Poly and I let him take the truck for a whirl. I think I might have hooked another "victim". He really enjoyed it and might just be an Toyota owner one day.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_20.jpg

So, I was explaining to Claire that you really have to keep your speeds up when in thick sand with stock tires which was especially true when climbing steep hills. This is one way of saying, "I heard you the first time!" or maybe just "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee". Again, I must learn to wait just a little bit longer to use the burst function 'cause she got up there.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_19.jpg

The sunset was really nice.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_21.jpg

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_22.jpg

Here we are back at camp. It gets a tad chilly in the afternoons when the wind is up. We had so much fun.

http://sdori.com/eventimages/pismo_23.jpg

Chris, Lance, Bob, I'm sure you have heard it a few times but thanks for putting this on. It has to be a ton of work and it's great you guys stepped up to do it. I really enjoyed meeting everyone. We all got to see some awesome vehicles, great launches, and hang out together. I know I am excited to build up my rig more so I can enjoy those sorts of things a bit more without the worry.

If another event was to pop up in the coming months I would try very hard to make it.

Take care everyone and see hopefully we'll see you all again soon!

Thank you to all of the organizers and sponsors for making this such an awesome event!

Just a few highlights—the Winnebago doing 55 mph on the beach, Mike’s PA speaker falling off and dragging in the sand (that didn’t keep him from talking on it), the 4 gallons (!!) of clam chowder that Chris delivered to camp on Saturday night and the late drag races between myself, Mike (4x4Mike), UKMeyers, Chris (slosurfer) and Frank (elripster). I'm sure my truck hated the whooptie-doos (whatever you call them) at the starting line and the full throttle redline shifts, but it was sure fun!

Thanks again all!

Frank and Claire, thank you for giving the RC FJCruiser to Jack. He loves it, he even slept with it last night. Also, you will be glad to know, when I finally got home last night from the garcia trail run, the first thing he did was show it to me and then said, "Daddy, can we build a jump for it!" Then he ran off into his room and grabbed a book and something to prop it up on, and proceeded to launch it. :D That was one of those "proud papa" moments. Thanks again, and thanks for coming and bringing the raffle prizes.

Man it's all good, I was glad to make him happy. That's how it all starts you know, a kid with an RC car... It was so cute when he offered me his current toy car for trade after receiving the FJ. I told him he could keep both the cars, I already have one "Toy" car.

I had RC cars as a kid and know how much fun they are. That story sounds exactly like my first one. It seemed I always had to have an RC version of whatever my dad was driving (believe it or not my mom found a Mercedes 300D looking RC car) at the time. I'll let Claire know he's enjoying it, she'll be stoked too to hear he's having fun.

Yeah we got to some wine tasting. First we got showers at my cousin's place in SLO (gotta say, they keep the place up pretty nice for a couple of partying college kids). Then we left, stopped at Laetitia Winery on the 101, then headed into Solvang on Betteravia which took us to Foxen Canyon. We picked up a bottle at that first winery and two more at Rancho Syscuoc (sp?) We hung out with her folks in Solvang a bit then headed home. I thought on a Sunday night, traffic would be mellow, I was wrong. Santa Barbara was a grinder all the way into Ventura. We got back around 11PM.

An aside, my cousin is trying to pledge some frat that had them drive back out to the dunes. Whatever they were doing he couldn't call, something about the rules. Anyway, the Trailblazer had WAY more sand in it after than my truck did at any point. He said it was comforting to know that if he did get stuck he knew who to call and also appreciate the opportunity to drive in the sand earlier because it helped him keep from getting stuck.

It would have been fun to see the Trailblazer out there but if something happened to it (when I was there) my aunt would probably airmail herself from SF to SD to kick my rear so it's cool that we all road in mine earlier.

This event was very well organized! Thanks to all involved.......

I really didn't expect so many to follow me out to find a spot to do some jumping, let alone have so many participate in the madness. For everyone who got photo's of me jumping, can I please get a copy of the fullsize file... PM me for an e-mail addy or send me a link....THANKS! I actually survived without any damage and an annoying body squeak I had went away...

Marc, I kept my jumping within the limits of suspension travel and didn't have any hard landings, so no harm done, but some of the other vehicles that did jump had hard landings. I probably could have jumped higher, but my front springs are too soft. The rear suspension never did bottom out...

I'll upload some videos of everyone jumping later......

I broke one of mine a few years ago, used JB weld to put it back together..... it has held up just fine.

Cool pics everybody... I had alot of fun as did the others that were at my camp. We were the little group camped up closer to the dunes with the three yotas. Ended up with a little bit of carnage... I bent a rim somehow, but was able to hammer it back and refill the tire. My friend Dennis in the 06 Tacoma w/Total Chaos ended up busting his radiator and overheating. Long story short, I arranged a truck and trailer to drive (4 hour drive from Rancho Cucamonga) all the way up to pick up the Tacoma. I towed it off the beach and we loaded it up onto the trailer. Made for a VERY long sunday, I didnt pull into my driveway until 11pm... We are still awaiting to find out if there was any damage done when he overheated.

Awesome event guys! Thanks to everyone that made this happen. Sorry I didn't join you guys Sunday Chris. It's a good thing I didnt' though. While airing up I realized I had gear oil pouring out of my rear third. When I checked the studs, the bottom was broke off. I went through 3 quarts of gear oil to get it home. I had to stop about every 50 miles and top it back off. I had several cars pull up beside me pissed because I think they were getting gear oil on their windshield..hahaha. Anyways here are my pics.

Got in at around 6am today. We had a blast even though we didn't have our truck out there. We picked up a new main seal from Northridge Toyota on Monday. Justin had to work last night so Caity and I hung out in the motorhome in the Costco parking lot.

Chris, Bob and Lance: Great job on planning and running this event.

A big thank you also goes out to everyone who let us hitch a ride out into the dunes. With out all of you, Justin and I would have been sitting in the motorhome all weekend.

Chris and Jenn: Thank you for your hard work on pulling off one of the finest event that we have seen! You guys really did a great job on getting all of us together despite the rain forecast. Great job on getting the vendors lined up to donate their products for our membership and to help a great cause by giving back the raffle fund to the Pismo Dunes. Another big thank you for providing the awesome Splash Cafe Clam Chowder dinner for those that requested them. I know if was a lot of work so hats off to you. I don't think I can thank you enough for pulling off such an event.

April and Jack: Great to see you again. I'm sure the next time I see ya Jack will be a big bro :D yay!

Justin and Caitlyn: Pleasure to meet you Justin. Thanks for providing the motorhome for all of us and using that as a base camp. I hope you guys were able to get it out of the sand on Sunday. I will see you on the next trip :)

Bob: Thanks for the carpooling and all of the time put into getting the 4runner finished. Sorry we couldn't get it to Pismo in time. I must say it felt good just relaxing and doing "almost" nothing. Though driving your 4runner to get Nick (Blue Taco) out with the help of Sean and also pulling the motorhome was a BLAST!

David, Marcie and the little one (was it Michael? crap I already forgot :() Good to see ya again and great to meet you Marcie! Thanks for the awesome Chili too... Sorry we couldn't relax and talk a bit longer but I know I'll see ya next time cuz it won't be camping on the sand! :)

Ken and Audrey: Good to see you guys again! Thanks for the awesome cookies and the kabob's too! :D

Mike (4x4Mike): Great to meet you and I'm glad you had a blast joining our "pro Toyota clan" ;) Looks like nothing was going to stop you including a busted PA Speaker! I hope that Ken invites you on the future events! If not, just crash our trips anyway :)

Bruce: Sorry I couldn't stick around to take more pictures or videos but it looks like you had enough of a fan club following you around. I'll pick up the hilift next time - Hopefully for that trip next weekend. I owe ya!

Toyota120 Crew (Andries, Marc, John and Henry): Good to see you guys again and great meeting you John. Sorry I couldn't jump in with you guys with my 4runner but I know we'll meet up again soon.

Sean: Good to finally put the face together with the chat sessions and posts. Looking at your mods on the center console definitely looks like a great project :) Nice job on the sliders too! The offset color definitely makes it pretty slick.

Colin: great to meet you. You've got one nice 4runner! I'll try to crash your run next weekend :)

Joel: Great meeting you too!

Frank and Claire: A big thanks for help supporting the event by providing some goodies for our members. Thank you for being there to support us and also have fun on the dunes :)

Papasmurf (sorry I didn't get your name): Great to see a FJ at the event :) Looks like you had a blast and great to see you join us. Looking forward to see you and your family again on future events.

Nick: I'm glad you had fun despite getting stuck a few times :) Hope I didn't kill ya trying to yank you out.

MysticZ and family: Good to see other fellow 4th genners! Thanks for the great fireside chat and I hope you guys had a blast. Hope to see you again on future events :)

Milton: Sorry we couldn't stick around. Next time :)

MorphiasX and crew: Good to meet ya guys man. Make sure to get that LT kit checked! Bummer on radiator :( been there done that. Hope all is well now.

Russel (boogyman): Good to see you again!

Tony: Good chatting with you. Sorry to hear your bummer clutch. I hope Bob took care of you with the good info for local shops in the SGV.

Everyone else I forgot: Sorry my brain is a bit of a blur so if I missed your names, your significant others name sorry! I had a blast and it was a pleasure meeting all of you. I hope you guys had a blast! Don't forget to thank Chris and Jenn for setting up an awesome event.

Well see what you all did with this event. I've gotten all fired up about wheeling, updated the webpage, etc... www.sdori.com...

Anyway, I'm on a roll. If anyone was running our stuff out there and has some pictures whey would like posted on our website feel free to email them to us and I'll put them up. It's not that I have anything at all against other lift kits but people tend to associate pictures with the equipment on a website like ours. If I put a picture of say Bruce's truck and a person orders some spacers, it is conceivable they could be, well, disappointed. ;)

All I need now is the pictures of me surfing in the ocean with my Tacoma. I have been to Pismo three times in three years, this is the first time the cops made an issue about being in the water (not to say they caught me :tongueout:, lol, but I heard from others they were warned.)

One of the members recorded me on dvd in the second wake, awsome vid! Another member got me taking out a GMC Monster 4x4 Duely hooked to a 3-axle Toy Hauler loaded with a Rail, ATV's very nice inside (got a personal tour after pulling him out). Now this was a one in a million shot, because just before I arrived (4), yes (FOUR) Four Super Duty 4x4's tied together tried, and tried, and tried and could not even move it 12". I offered my help knowing I had a 20% chance getting this thing out using my brain; a snatch block, 30' strap, 1- super duty 4x4 as an anchor and double locking differentials. Nobody was prepared for the end result, the other super duty trucks left just shaking there head. I think I sold 4 winches then. I managed to help several people; 120k motorhome stuck/got him 30' then he spun his tires until he landed on his frame/it was TONKA time, PU blown bead l/r/stuck at water line, Super duty 4x4 with trailer, Super Duty PU, and some kid with his POV.
NOTE:
Now this info came from the guy in the GMC, he was cited last year for helping someone at Pismo and seen getting paid, they threw him in jail for 6 days, $400.00+ misdemenor fine and he is still battling the court system about it. SH#$!!! They missed me again :tongueout:, but I think this is because so many businesses bid for the right to make money on the dunes. So the moral of the story is if you pay someone make sure the rangers are not around and make sure the money is not visable.

I placed a ton of photos in my webshot photo album from me and other members (thanks), you can view them here:

Chris I saw that! Believe me I'm dying to get a trailer :) I've got a big uphill battle on this one so it won't happen for some time. Though Bruce did say that he's in the process of making one of his own so I may have him just pick up some extra parts for me so I can "slowly" build it and just appear out of nowhere :D hahaha o man I'm sooooo dead when this happens :)

I tell ya, when i realized Lance was hooking up my truck to the motorhome I said "Boy, he better know what he's doing" And when I heard how high Lance was revving it, steam started to come out of my ears...but when I saw my baby pulling the motorhome away, I screamed "YEAH, THATS MY TRUCK!" :D

good times, literally!

I got this email from my friend Anthony (the one in the dodge powerwagon).

Chris you did a great job with the Jamboree! I had a great time out at
the dunes! Great Pic's! Just let them know on the Toyota Forum that it
isn't a "Ram" It's a Power Wagon! Don't want anybody thinking they can
go jump their Ram and drive away! And is there anyway I could get a
high resolution copy of the photos of my truck jumping?( You can give
my email address to "bulldog" who took the one with all 4 tires in the
air Yeehaa! ) All of the Toyota People treated me great! Much better
then I usually get treated(a lot of people are biased towards what a
4x4 should be) If only all of the Vehicle Groups were as Friendly as
the Toyota Group, 4x4ing in General would benefit A Lot! Make sure and
thank everyone for me!

Anthony S

Thanks to everyone for being so cool and welcoming to everyone, that's why I love this group.

Chris, your truck seems to get around the trail really well for having open diffs.

Something tells me I'm going to miss that event on the 2nd. I mean miss as wish I was there.

Well I returned that very large tent of ours since the poles were splitting. Costco was cool about it.

I just got some new goodies to install from 4crawler to tune of front and rear sway bar disconnects and a 1" body lift. Yep... gonna have to get back out there...

It does alright, but I can't wait to get it locked and geared. Especially after playing around with the taco and the elocker. :D

Sounds like you will still have a fun weekend even though you won't make it to SnT.

 I knew there was no way that tent made it through without any damage. You got to love Costco's return policy though. That tent was taller than the shade popups. I think it might have even been tall enough that the jet stream was hitting it.

elripster
10-20-2007, 10:15 PM
Oh yeah, that tent.... I think the replacement will be a tad smaller. I had the fond memories of my last one that was indestructible, easy to set up, and had enough room for EVERYTHING if it was raining and I needed to empty the truck for all except for wheeling goods. This one is/was a PITA.

We did not bond with this one.

At least now the weather patterns can return to normal with no jet stream interruptions.

I have a Truetrac awaiting installation and am torn as to whether I wait until the regear or just put it in. My last truck really struggled without something other than open diffs. I haven't pushed this one yet to find its limits. I am trying to line things up for regearing gathering parts but I don't yet have a fixed date. Seeing your truck negotiating some respectable terrain while towing a trailer is pretty cool.

 I know that feeling! It makes it much easier to camp when you have bonded well with your equipment. :D

I think the 4runners tend to do better than the trucks with open diffs, mainly just do to the weight over the rear end. I also use the "poor man's locker" quite often. A little brake bias will help get both rear wheels turning, just don't try it once you already have high rpms, you might break something in the front if it locks up at the wrong time. Oh, and the added travel in the front from the bj spacers helps a bunch ( :D shameless plug). :king:

I don't know if I added this in anywhere in this thread, but we were able to donate $300 dollars to Friends of the Oceano Dunes (http://www.oceanodunes.org/index.php). FoOD is a non-profit group that is dedicated to keeping the Oceano Dunes open for all users. There is a real fight constantly going on by many to close the dunes. As it is, the useable area is much much smaller than it used to be. The donation will help with court costs etc.... Thanks to all who participated!
