I've been going without any kind of camera for a while, finally got one for my B-day (which is today btw)... I've finally made the jump to DSLR!!!

Canon Digital Rebel XTi (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=14256)

10.1 MegaPixel, etc etc.

I suspect I will be taking some really good pictures now... :king:

I am sooooo disappointed that you picked up a Canon and not a Nikon :(

Since it's your bday I'll let this one slide :D

Let the Nikon vs Canon debate begin!

On a side note, good luck on buying additional lens and filters! It's gonna be $$$. Did I say it'll be fun at the same time?

Happy Bday!

Puhleeez.... I'm a Canon guy all the way. Besides, it ain't the camera it's the person using it :P

Yeah, in the future I'll need to find myself an IS medium zoom lens like the 28-135 IS USM... and then a macro lens, and a teleconverter, and a polarizer, and some ND's, and... my god what have I gotten myself into :tapedshut:

look into some wide angle stuff as I really wished I picked up some wide angle stuff (14-17mm fixed stuff). if I have some $$ I'd definitely look into at least one wide angle lense.

O yeah don't forget to pick up filters to protect the lense too. I've had great luck w/ Hoya's.

We recently got a Tamron 28-75 lens for out Canon. Awesome lens for the money. I took these recently - I love playing with f/2.8 for portrait pics!

+1 for Nikon.

I heard Canon users eat their young, is that true?

Nikons wouldn't be so bad if everything wasn't backwards. I'd suggest getting the 17-40L 4.0. It's a great all around lens and can't beat an "L" lens.

Let the Nikon vs Canon debate begin!

my step-dad is a "professional" and he has both and says they both take excellent pix.
for the price, its canon. he likes his XTi and uses it more frequently.

i will be getting his old nikon. cant wait to participate in the digital revolution.

To be honest, if you plan on keeping your camera for awhile, Nikon is fine, but if you want the latest and greatest, it's gonna be tough to beat Canon. They are the only pro line that create their own chips and have the RnD facilities to make fast advancements. Everyone else farms their stuff out so they are slower in making changes and are at the mercy of a third party.

very nice Brian, about time you got the SLR lol

about canon and nikon

you buy into a system, of lenses, of bodies and the way things work

Im a canon user, used to have a nikon, sorry to say but nikons noise control is absolutely horrible. if they had that fixed id have a nikon because of its durable body and better fit.

thats just my opinion
