Sig Pro SP2009-BMS

my local gun shop originally sold it to a guy in 2004 who came there and shot it once or twice a year and kept it in the case in his house - and it shows. maybe 2-300 rounds thru it. came with the OEM foam-lined case, owner's manual, two 15-round SIG mags, hogue slip-on grip, etc.

what makes this one special? the factory manual safety on the slide. :D

anyway, it turns out to be a pretty hard-to-find - one off batch - of SP2009's called SP2009-9-BMS that won't be offered ever again to the general public.

pretty cool...

FAQ: Is there a Sig Pro with a manual safety?

Yes, and its manual safety is ambidextrous, mounted on the slide. The SIGARMS product code is SP2009-9-BMS. These were apparently built by SIGARMS, per request from some South American government. The funding never came through, so instead of scrapping the slides, SIGARMS decided to sell them on the US civilian market. This does not mean a new option for Sig Pros. Instead, once they're gone, they're gone. All of them were based on the SP 2009, meaning that they are available only in 9mm. They also come with the short trigger installed.

Note that this manual safety allows the Sig Pro to be carried in "cocked and locked" mode, specifically with the hammer cocked and the manual safety engaged.

:drools:

I have a Sig catalog right here - hope to find a 220R, 226R or 229R (can't make up my mind) when the next gun show comes in to town. that way I can get Sarah one of those "Got Sig" tank tops to wear to the range this summer. :P

What an interesting find. Be sure to document anything that you have about it. Any idea what the total run numbers are for this variation?

i've been looking and can't find much. i'll eventually contact SIG and see what they can tell me. they pop up on gunbroker from time to time, and i even saw one on there last week.

i just sold it earlier today for $400 to a guy here at work.

replacement? SP2022. brand new, "same" gun, same caliber, but with a few upgrades like a picatinny rail, nite sights, and a little easier to take down in the field. also, no safety to get in the way on the slide. that thing was cumbersome to operate anyway. stole it on gunbroker for $509. i chose another 9mm due to the availability and cheapness of the ammo. a 40S&W would cost an arm and a leg to shoot at the range, and a 357SIG would have cost an arm, a leg, and probably a kidney to plink with!
