ok so here we go again, front right strut has issues. i pulled it out to finally get my wheel wells clear for my tires ( a year later) so i pulled the coil so i could cycle the suspension up and down. i look at the top nut (which last time i blew off because of a metric/english mismatched nut and thread) and the washer that goes between the top nut and the bushing, that used to be conical, is now inverted.

pics say a thousand words:

im begining to think that the tundra springs are just too stiff and too high of a spring rate, causing them to want to pull out of those shocks. im about to go back to stock, and just use spacers until i can afford saw's or an LT kit.

so heres my suggested remedy:

make new washers out of 3/16 steel, they wont be conical, but they shouldnt ever bend or anything else. what do you guys think?

That front suspension set-up wasn't designed to be jumped! :chair:

make some thicker washers, or just stack two where you have one now.

like bruce said, it's more a cause of the JuMpS than the spring rate of the coil.

i know im not suppose to jump it. maybe its time for limiting straps and longer shocks, so the shocks dont take the force, the straps do.

either way, im not putting those stock washers back on, they are EXPENSIVE.

looks like i better get started cutting and drilling new washwers. i hate taking these things apart. i might do it when i have a bit more free time.

go buy some approximately 1" diameter 1/16" thick washers w/ a 3/8" or so opening from HD, Lowes, or a local hardware store. less than $0.15 each and it will fix the washer issue.

also, you don't have to take the coilpacks off the truck to repalce the top washer. use two wrenches to remove the top center nut, put the new wather on top of the grommet, then re-tighten the nut. 10-minutes per side, tops.

yea, im going to have to do it another day, its too smokey out side to work.

im also frustrated at trying to clear stuff out of the way of the tires. im finding damage to the front bumper brackets that was done by previous owner hitting something, who knows. its missing bolts, brackets are mangled and torn, definately not something i did at pismo or any other wheelin trip. unfortunatly the accident isnt reported on carfax, so who knows. looks like its time for the shrockworks bumper!!!

ok well thanks for your help, esp andy, i didnt know i could pull the top nut off, never thought of it, but i suppose you are right, thanks!

Why is it such a big deal to change the washer? Who cares. Its doing its job either way. Are you afraid that the nut is going to pull through the washer? Thats not going to happen. Im sure mine are the same way and they will stay like that.

its not like that, my truck now sits unlevel, and i have the lower washer jiggling around now, because the lower bushing (below the top plate) is no longer compressed enough to hold the washer still, esp over bumps and the like.

Hmmm, thats odd. I have the same front setup as you and i can guarantee i am much harder on my truck. I havent had any problems.

Actually i take that back, i have the Blue TRD Tokico Front Shocks. Maybe its time for you to swap out the front shocks.

I checked mine out today and everything is as it was when new. About 12k miles on the suspension now. I guess it payed off to go with the XTREME TRD sh*t. Haha.
