correct link (http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/autoshows/sema2007/toyota/tundradually1.html) for the Tundra Diesel Dually Concept
It's big - inside and out. Toyota's Tundra Dually Diesel CrewMax has arrived at SEMA with an 8.0-liter I6 Hino oil burner under its hood.
The press kit for the Tundra Dually Diesel will be published tomorrow, but preliminary info on the Hino motor is that it's rated in the neighborhood of 300-horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Gears are swapped using an Allison 5-speed manual transmission.
There had been some rumor this truck might debut with a Caterpillar diesel, but Toyota made the decision to stay within the family. Hino is a member of the Toyota Group of companies.
Brian Smith, Toyota's corporate marketing manager, says, "The Tundra Dually Diesel is a concept in true SEMA tradition. It’s meant to show off the wilder side of our trucks."
And showing off that wilder side means this Tundra has driven past the heavy duty segment. It also uses Hino rear running gear and brakes, swiped off Hino’s medium duty chassis trucks.
Toyota may have secret plans to enter the heavy duty segment in the next few years, but if it does we're betting that future Tundra HD won't be setup anywhere like this one-of-a-kind hauler.
Inside is a custom leather interior and the biggest stick shift this side of a semi. If that tall stick isn't enough to prompt the driver they're in something beyond Class 3, the instrument panel also helps. The tach goes red at only 2,600 rpm. There's also Tekonsha electronic brake controllers integrated in the dash.
Outside, the custom tow mirrors and front bumper are brushed steel and the skin has been painted with a matte gray finish. It rides on 22-inch wheels. Open the doors and running boards automatically deploy from under the cab.
The bed houses a 24K-pound fifth wheel hitch and preliminary information suggests that this truck is rated to tow that same amount. We'll confirm tomorrow after Toyota gives the official word.
The Tundra Dually Diesel was custom built for SEMA by Toyota Motorsports Garage in Torrance, California.
More information to come. Stay tuned!

Holy crap...... Toyota is definitely getting into the "bigger is better" mentality. I personally think that mantra is going to be a thorn in toyota's side for years to come, the trucks are getting bigger and bigger, seems to be the way the domestics went too. Toyota needs to stick to what got them where they are...

oh wow. That is nice! 8.0 I6! Doesn't get much better than that. I'm a bit surprised that they are using a 5spd manual though. As far as I know, everybody else is offering a 6spd. But then again, this is not the final result, so I guess we'll see what they end up using.
I like what I see so far. Dash looks cool too. :D

Chevy and Dodge think they are hurting now... If that thing gets built..........
Ford will probably hold a decent percent of the market IMO.

They need to tone down those rims a little.
Just seems to much.
Other than that if Toyta actually does a good job of refining this thing maybe just maybe it can compete without issue.

yeah the color is kinda odd but i like how it doesnt have that super gloss feel.
wonder what size brakes its running. im sure after the press release they will give more details about it and how much it will be able to pull with a trailer and tongue weight.
which i think is sometime today? or tomorrow

the bigger question is how to fit one of those in my 4runner ;) hehe!
I really dig the color. That flat looking feel definitely keeps everything in perspective and doesn't say "bling!". The wheels on the other hand needs to go. They could have used something else but I guess it's suppose to be a dually so I could see why they chose that wheel. The rear fenders are a bit much but I suspect the production version will be toned down significantly.
The interior is much to be desired. I don't like the shifter (sitting way too high) and the leather color combo just doesn't do justice. They should have stuck w/ the current look and feel on the interior for the Tundy as it's already nice and refined. I guess they're just going after that SEMA look. The dash is complicated... But again it's SEMA presentation.
Overall, I dig it :) Can't wait to see this on the lots as it'll definitely do a number on the big 3.

Great truck!! I like the idea that Toyota is staying in house with the Hino, equip. I can only imagine how hard that clutch pedal is to push down. (Remember the Land Cruiser with it's six and 4speed tran.)
Not really crazy about the flat matte paint finish. Hard to beat, "resale red" Like the interior as long as it's for someone big! Wheels could use some dressing but, as a custom, it had to have something to support the weight of that thing. I am guessing that the weight of that truck has to be somewhere in the neighborhood 8000-9000lbs as it sets.
Look out, Ford!! Convert that puppy to burn french fry oil, or soy diesel. TJ

Cool concept, we'll see about where the production model goes...
The speedometer looks a little wierd only going to 85 mph... not that you would ever need to go faster just looks wierd is all.
