This was one of the best sporting events I've ever been to. Flipping bad ass. Truly a sport for real men and women. It combines all aspects of athletics: talent, hard work, practice, concentration, discipline, finesse and technique, and some BUILT upper body muscles. I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking. In case you're wondering why this is UY related, You will see one of your fearless leaders here.

Here is the oposition. 12" diameter blocks. Yeah.

A woman who knows her way around an axe. Damn right.

Mens Hard Hit, round 1. The goal in hard hit is to chop the block with the least number of strokes. You have a time limit as well.

A log toss. This is not the caber toss, I missed that. The idea here was to get the log within a specific area, as quickly as possible.

2nd place. His axe kept getting stuck, else he would have won.

The first is the mens hard hit event, the second is the mens speed final

He would have finished 1st if he had worn the kilt.

Hey Cheese...I'm kind of surprised to see that steel-toe boots aren't a requirement. Has anybody taken one in the foot recently?

Agreed. However, it was DAMN cold in that arena. I think they keep those horses refrigerated or something. The draft would have been gnarly in the kilt.

If you take a look at the picture of the womens speed chop, you will see the girl on the right of the picture is wearing some weird moon boot style things. They are steel shoe covers. The others are all wearing chainmail socks. If a food it hit, it will cut the shoe, but not the foot itself.

Thanks Isaac, I didn't see this until today.

Had a great time.

I took second in mens underhand speed. Our team was third in team chop, I was the anchor leg.

We wear chain socks under our shoes so you get a big bruise, not a cut off foot.

In that video, it was the third block I had chopped at a high rate of speed in about 2.5 hours. I was tired. At the end of the team chop, I hit the wall and was out of steam.

Great pics, I really appreciate it.

No worries, it was a blast.

I should add that those axes aren't light. They may be light for an axe, but its still like 6 or 7 pounds. Try swinging an 8lb sledge as fast as you can, and you'll get a good feel for it. Damn right.

My racing axes weigh about 6.5 pounds.

I am a pretty honest 260 right now. For spring season I want to be hitting at 240. I was way out of gas on that block, more so on the team chop block.

We have another comp in Oregon this coming weekend, hoping to do better there. Usually you chop one block per discipline. At this comp, we had brackets so the winners were chopping between 3 and 5 blocks, which is a lot for one day.

Isaac, I meant to add she was the one wearing a headband.

Ahhhh...Yes, I get it now. Just wasn't clicking. You said something about meeting her beforehand, but you seemed pretty busy. I'll meet her another time.
