I'm using my parents 4runner for a week while mine gets worked on and I'm trying to fix a few little things on it.
Any how the radio doesn't light up at night (stock cd/tape system). Is there a fuse somewhere that controls this or is it the wiring causing the problem?

ttora,
it should work with your dimmer dial thingy (rheostat?), iirc. its been awhile since i used a stock radio
personally, i dont think the stock radios are built to last, esp the cd player. they only last a few years, seems like less than 4 before somthing like you are experiencing goes on. given the price of a good decent stereo is less than $200, you might want to explore other, better options

I don't think there is a fuse for just the radio lights. I think you're going to have to take it apart to fix. And if that's the case, just buy another one on ebay or something. Personally, I like the OEM units, too, so if mine goes out, it'll be replaced with another.

Yes, my 2000 SR-5 was the same way when I bought it. Duh, didn't turn radio on at night just turned it on to see that it worked. I have replaced everything with a Kenwood elxecon with the flipping over face plate. all new speakers, although the rear seat ones are very limited. Also added a 4x100 Kenwood Excel on amp, and a rear sub. Plus an 10 disc CD changer in the rear cargo area. Also have the XM/Serurs set up. I did check to see it the light was repairable, and guess what? It's not. :screwy: TJ.
