Master Flow makes a great/cheap way for you to have On Board Air. The MF-1050 is the most popular one and can be found at almost any auto parts store.

I recently went to Costco on 3/1/07, and found a MF-1050 for 49.99. This is a great deal and comes with everything you see here. The reason I bought it at Costco was because of the extremely generous return policy they have.

Here are some specs:

Motor: 12-Volt DC
Fuse: 30 Amps
Maximum working pressure: 120 psi
Maximum re-start pressure: 150 psi
Maximum recommended continuous operating time: 40 minutes
Recommended on/off cycle time: 15/30 minutes

It also has a very nice bag and other adapters you can use for different applications.

Any info on CFM or time to fill tires?

localmotion

I cannot find the info on CFM...but people said they filled their 35" tire from 12psi to 25psi in 2 min. Not too bad imo.

i got mine used but like-new.

it worked pretty well till it got some dirt into it... since then it seems really sluggish. but it does the job.

you should probably take it apart and clean it out as much as you can if you got dirt in it. if you score a cylinder, then it'll be a $50 door-stop.

yeah i havent had the time to do that.

i dont really care about it, i got it for like $20, and i want to get a tank

What about the old pull a spark plug, turn off the EFI, connect a hose to the cylinder and crank the starter method of inflation?! :spit:

That compressor is a godsend, I used it today when airing back up and it took me about 15 minutes to go from 20to 44 psi between switching to the other tires and using some jumper cables to extend it so I can reach my rear.

I thought for 50 bucks it was alot, but its so worth it!

Used mine yesterday.... worked pretty well for the 1st tire, but it sure went slow for the next 3.

265/75/16, 16 to 34 psi

i'll be piecing together a CO2 system and just keeping the MV50 for backup.

Link to Q89 (http://www.amazon.com/Master-Flow-Q89-Portable-Compressor/dp/B000L9D8LI/ref=sr_1_3/102-9096874-5884118?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1175537905&sr=1-3)

Anyone running the Q89?

My only beef with the masterflow is that when I try to fill up my portable air tanks. It blows fuses like crazy under such a load. I'm using a 25 amp fuse, but i doubt that's the problem. Any ideas?

I just bought one of these the other day at 4Wheel Parts Truck Fest. A couple guys said they used it and was great. Cant wait to try mine out. I wont have much need for it but when I do it will be nice.

i had one of them MV-50s, it was junk, took about 10 min per tire, and only lasted about 2 months.
when i bought it, they was $25 each so i got 2, and sold one to another guy (for $25) his is still working, lol go figure, they are slow, very slow, but most of them do work.

like i said...it is a cheap source for OBA. If I have a flat out in the middle of now where, 10 min time is nothing. Obviously if I were going for speed, I would have bought something that cost 10 times as much.

sorry man, when i read OBA, i thought ya meant for airing up on the trail. sorry

localmotion

well that too! LOL. No need to apologize.

I have patience, and I used this thing before. From 22PSI to 33, it took about 4 min per tire IIRC.

Anyone seen a Duty cycle number on that thing?

when i first got it, after reading that it was somewhat fast, i got mine, and found out, out here, up in the mountains, at 10,000ft. or higher, they just aint worth the wait.
I have seen someone put two together, it seememd to work pretty good, but havent heard from him in a year.

I have one of those compressors, and so does my friend. I've also got a 4-air system that I built (header, hoses, and locking tire chucks that allows me to connect to all four tires at the same time for re-filling). I installed a quick connect on a spare port on my header so that we can connect both compressors in parallel. That makes it real quick to re-fill the tires. I'd say it re-fills all four tires from 16-18psi back up to 32-34psi in approx 5 or 6 minutes. With only one compressor running, it takes around 8 or 9 minutes to re-fill all four tires.

Hey Bob, where did you find one of these at? Been looking for one.

i got one of those tornado III setups last weekend. its 100% duty, hooks up to the battery with jumpers..and works quite well. 4 35" tires from about 12~14psi to about 34psi took less than half an hour. about 6 minutes/tire...which is good enough for me as we usually shoot the sh!t when we're airing up anyway...at a station or trailhead.

You can still get a CO2 tank for less at a weld supply, and run air tools. You can also mod your AC pump and fill from flat to 32 psi in under a minute. 30 amp draw I hope your using thick wire 10 or 8 ga otherwise the wire gets hot and so does the fuse then pop. Just my 2 cents.

You talking to me???

Oh ya!!.....I used 4 ga wire......i go big on all my stuff......You can't take a risk with expedition travel!!!

CO2 is also a good option....but with expedtiton travel.....long trips can kill a bottle......I love my Extremeaire!!!...All the air i need...plus i don't have to spent time and $$$$$ going to get it filled!

Just my 2 cents!

What is expedition travel ? Is that where you go to someplace everyone else has been, or is that someplace no one has been. Just curious ? I am not one to go making trails anywhere I can, that wouldn't be friendly, besides it makes the backwoods look used. How many times do you air up and down on an expedition ? Is it like Survivor where you strand a bunch of people in a place where people have lived for thousand of years ? Oh yeah it cost me $8 to fill my 20 gal tank, and I can air up 30+ tires from 0 to 32 PSI in no time after I used my impact to put them on.

Good question.....Expedition travel is when you leave the city and join the backroads. We don't create trails......we always tread lightly! Many people go deep into Mexico and all over the world. There is alot of trails to discover and explore! It is fun to discover old mining/ghost towns....

Depending on the trail and area....a person could air down about 2-3 times.....If you have a flat or breakdown and need to use air tools......a good compressor is your lifeline!......I pull a trailer.....I have to air up & down 6 tires at a time....

30 / 6 = 5 air ups.......Plus any problems on the trail......I just don't want to run out of co2.....Co2 is great......but when your in the middle of nowhere.....Having an compressor is priceless!

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the clarification. I use a AC compressor as well as my 20 lb CO2, cause my die grinder blender takes alot of air. Nothing is better than a Margarita by the campfire.
