So I am checking my Pay-Pal account and I see where on October 30th, of 2007 that my membership to The other place (YT) has been renewed!!
I have immediately filed a dispute and sent the recipients a scathing message that I will also be submitting this info to my States Attorney General!
They have committed fraud no matter what membership rules say. They have defrauded me out of $25. So for those of you who used to be contribting members or sponsoring members you need to check you payment methods or you too will be getting ripped of by them!!
I would think Banning your membership would immediately kill your status of being able to contribute!! Also, I want everyone here to know I have been very nice about this posting!!
So Please do not report this to the Mods here. I am only telling you all, what happened to me, and trying to warn others!! :bangdesk: TJ

the problem is that when you paid the first time, you probably selected an annual subscription. if not, then it is STEALING to bill your account w/o authorization.

Wow TJ, hopefully it was just a computer mistake and it will be rectified soon by the YT mods.

If I remember right, there was an option to make the payment an annual deal. It may have even been the default setting, but I don't remember. I think there was a check box though.
I'll have to go check my paypal. :D

There was an option to make it a one time deal or an annual subscription if you paid through PayPal.

even if he checked the box for annual payment, it should have become void once he got banned, that's what he's getting at........

Yes, it should have be void when I got banned. It's not like I can go back in and change it. TJ

well, the problem with that philosophy is that the "subscription" is in the Paypal system, and is completely seperate from the message board. there's no way other than for them to go into paypal and check to see if a member has a subscription or a one-time setup after they've been banned. that would be a nightmare since they don't have actual names, and the member may not have the same paypal and forum email addresses. this should give you a peek into how that well-oiled machine is run... :D
i'm not a fan of TOF or how it's run, but i'm 99% sure that this is a mistake (in this case) and there's not much they can do to fix the problem. it's up to the person who subscribes to cancel according to the paypal info that i've seen anyway.

I believe they can go into each user CP and disable the subscription on a case by case basis.

i just looked on one of my vB sites - they need to go into your user information and disable the subscription. If they had their shit together, when they ban people, they should be checking to see if the user was a recurring contributer.

Oh, yeah. I completely agree with that.

good point mike. i didn't know that it was VBB prompting the payments, i thought it was on the paypal side of the fence.
damn, that's really unorganized of them to NOT check that.
hopefully they will use this as a learning experience and develop a procedure for staff/admin to follow when banning members.

I sent them another message today and told them that they had 48 hours to respond, If they do not I will escalate it to a dispute with pay pal. They know who I am. I haven't changed my e-mail address, and they pay-pal also know that I was banned. I guess I tried to be a nice guy and give Corey the benefit of the doubt when this all started.... BIG MISTAKE! On my part. TJ

Hmmm. I intended mine to be a one time contribution for emergency conditions. I don't mind donating to a cause, but I want to control it... I wonder how I would check to see if I stated such. Anyone know how I would check?

Do you remember how you paid? If it's credit card you can go on-line and check out your charge history.
Do you also remember when you joined? If you did Pay-pal go into your account and check it's history and it will show you a history page, check it out and run it back till you find it and see if it was completed. If it was then file a disput immediately. TJ

I received an unsolicited PM today that stated the status of my acct at YT. It was a voluntary heads-up informing that I have not been auto-debited. That was comforting since automated transfers are the devil....:hillbill:

an unsolicited email also confirms another suspicion that was mentioned earlier in this thread as well...
