Alright guys...the older my car gets, the more problems it has. :chair:
Anyways, this time its my key for my ignition. Sometimes the key gets very hard to get out, as in I am stuck at the AUX part of it and have to move it from start to off really fast many times. The key does come out of the ignition without it being off.
I went to the dealership and they cut me new keys via VIN. I thought everything would be fine and dandy, but now the new key gets stuck sometimes. I guess there is a chance the the dealership screwed up the keys, but more than likely, something else is the problem. Can anyone help?
welcome to years 10-15 of car ownership
i dont have a solution for ya, but i wish you luck :)

Ive done that with other cars, (havent had the need yet on the 4runner) and its worked very well, also sprayed the door locks

it feels like either the key is not cut properly or there is a lock that will not let it get passed the AUX point. Its like the car is in gear, but in reality its not.

im always giggling my key to get it to go in and start, and to come out, just what happens to a 10 old key and cylinder.
might try popping down to the stealer, giving the vin, etc and having a new factory key cut.
maybe the gear shirter isnt completely in "P" mines does that from time to time, I know that i need to fix the shift linkage, but just to lazy :D
but just make sure the shidter is all the way in "P" thats all I can think of.

Sean, I had a new factory key cut.
Ric, Yea, im pretty sure it is in P, since just messing around with the key will make it come out.
Maybe the cylinder is just fubared.

My vote's on a worn-out cylinder, not the key. Sounds like it's not springy the way it's supposed to be.
But I'm no expert nor do I play one on tv.

I have the exact opposite issue.
I can get my key in but it wont turn from the lock position to Aux or On so.
And I can try everything from turning the wheel or playing with the shifter and it just wont give.
To get it to finally go I have to take the key and turn it and put it back in.
Before you all jump to conclusions I have had the key cut 3 Times at 3 different dealers just to see.
and no go.
I am going to start looking at new cylinder replacement.
I think its just part of owning it for 10+ years.

Matt, that sounds like a worn lock cylinder to me.
