Came home today to find a manila envelope from the Toronto Blue Jays. That was unexpected since I was released from them in 10/05. Opened it up, not knowing what could be in it, but to find a letter from MLB regarding a Pension Benefit/Lump Sum Distribution. Since I had only so many years in the leagues, I only earned a small amount towards my MLB pension. Since its so low, if I wanted, I could wait till 2045 to receive this amount or I can take it now. I figured, since its such a small amount, why wait? So thanks to MLB, I'll be receiving just over 1200.00. Not alot by any means, but when your not expecting it, its nice.
I'll probably just dump it into the savings account and when the time comes, order some 5.29's unless I can think of something else that would serve me better. But with 35's as my next step after my 33's are done, I think that will be the plan.

I played within the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Was drafted in 99, then played in their farm system through 05.
I pitched, then suffered a torn rotator cuff and labrum tear during Big League Camp, the year before I was suppose to be called up into the starting rotation. Was released a month after I finished my physical therapy rehab with them.
very sweet, well at least you lived the dream that alot of have, congrads

Thanks. It was a fun stretch, though you learn that what you once loved doing because you love doing it becomes a business. That can take some of the fun out pretty quickly. You learn a lot about the "behind the scenes" that can tarnish your image of the sport as well.
But I had the opportunity to travel to places in this country that I never would have gone and seen and met several people I not only looked up to and tried to imitate when I was younger, but some of the people who own these Minor League teams that you watch only at movie theaters.
