Alright i am tired riding in my truck that feels like it has to suspension what so ever. SO its time for me to replace the springs and shocks, then might as well lift it right? Heres the plan;

Downey ‘86-88 4WD 2” Lift Springs, pair (48279-2)- $199
http://www.downeyoff-road.com/SuspensionComponents/images_86-95/07.jpg

4 ProComp ES9000 Shocks- $135 (for all four! discounted price)
http://www.4wheelparts.com/aux_incl/images.ashx?i=ES9000special.jpg&partNo=EXP&w=200&h=200
1.5" Ball Joint Spacers- $119
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Images/BallJointSpacer.jpg

Now for shackles, who sells stock length greaseable/non-greaseable shackles?

Make sure that the front shocks will work with the extra travel from the bj spacers.

I can't really help you with the steering stabilizer.
I put a new OME one on and noticed a slight improvement, but it was a direct replacement without an added bracket. I'm sure others are running those and can comment. The stock one is tiny!

For most flex, I would stay with your stock tbars for now. If you add a real heavy bumper and winch later, you could always upgrade your tbars.

Do you have a cutting torch? If so, then replacing the shackles with greaseable ones is a bit easier. Doesn't your truck have a stabilizer already? It should be a direct replacement. I'd use it. It will take the slop out of street and trail driving.

Here is the link to the shock/stabilizer package http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=ES3000SSD ill call them and ask if its a direct replacement but they say the bracket is sold separately. And I definitely plan on finding a cutting torch. I will probably buy just stock length shackles but get them greaseable.

The Toyota factory shackle bolts are hardened beyond thunderdome. I cooked all but one of them off with a torch. The one I had to cut off by hand took me hours because of the limited access. I went through quite a few rescue grade sawzall blades and spat out many an expletive. In the end, it would have been faster if I had removed the fuel tank and torched the bolt....especially since I eventually had to remove the tank for another reason anyway :yikes: :bangdesk:

Sounds like this is going to be a fun little project. I just ordered the ProComp ES9000 shocks instead of the 3000. The rest will be ordered shortly...

These trucks are fun to repair, maintain and modify. Sometimes they go unwillingly like my runner. She fought me the whole way, but it was worth it. I have a punch list of thirty things left to do...they are mostly details.

I can't describe the satisfaction that comes from a successful tech session with the runner or pickup. Good luck!

Thanks! I can't wait to do it and I still need to order the springs and the spacers are for Christmas!

Does anyone run these shocks?

Oh yeah.

Can anyone tell me the size of the bolts for the shocks? I want to replace them with new ones (i like new stuff).

If you do any kinda serious wheeling, you WILL bend those springs!

ask me how I know!

Every pair of those damn springs I have ever seen bent..and thats a lot of them :shake:

Really? I knew I have heard mixed reviews but I am honestly not a hardcore wheeler. This truck is mainly for carrying bikes to trails and occasional trips to some off road parks.

Would you suggest Trail-Gear instead? If not who else?

Alright well the shocks have been on for a long time. I had some financial issues and couldn't order the springs. I do have the BJ Spacers and I do have enough for the springs. I think I am going with OME springs. Are those only a 2" spring? If so who makes shackles that will give me another inch?

Those shocks are only made for a 2-3" lift, how is that a lot of travel?

+1 on the 4crawler shackles, read thru how he arrived at his current design & it makes a ton of sense. Avail in any length you want, option to add greasable bolts, and the cost is close to what others sell for.

No updates till now. I have been busy with school and work. I have sold a bunch of my bike stuff and now am able to buy the leaf springs. I think I am going to go with OME 1.5-2" of lift. I can get them for around $230 from 4xconnection. Do you guys think I should get anything else? I would really like to just get it done in one shot rather then dealing with broken or worn out parts. Thinkin about getting new shackles and what about the bushings?
