This is the replanning of the Odessa run that was supposed to happen last weekend. Its gonna be the Saturday after Christmas. I was thinking of running Phillips Loop first and then on to Odessa.

Lets meet up at the Barstow Chevron Food Mart - 913 Barstow Rd. Its right off the 15, super easy to find. Lets meet up there at 0830 and take off shortly after that. The Start of Odessa Canyon is about 15 minutes from the meet spot. Hopefully you all can make it out. Right On.

Love to go but it looks like we are headed out of town Friday night returning Tuesday. 95% sure I can't make it but I'll let you know for sure as it gets closer.

Glad you got that break issue resolved, man what a nightmare.

IFS friendly for sure. I am IFS. Not sure the specs of your rig though. This is definitely a harder trail. I would say 33's and a rear locker are a good thing for this trail.

Yeah the bad news is I probably won't make it but the good news is we are headed out to Laughlin and will be hitting some of the trails out there. I'm sure I'll make one of your future runs, have yet to wheel with one of those new fangled 3rd gens. From the pictures I see they seem to spend a lot of time in air.

If theres not enough interest or people able to make it for this date, maybe we should change the date. What do you guys think? Suggestions?

It's up to you since it's your trip, but I'd still be down for going even if it is a small group.

Well, it dosent look like there is any interest in changing the date. So...... its on for the 29th. Looking forward to it.

I may be bringing my neighbors...if they come they'll be driving my 4runner and I'll drive the pick up. With you and Pat that will be 4 vehicles. If we can get Sean to get off his duff and confirm that will be 5. That's a pretty good group! :)

If you want more people I could post the run up on the VV4W website.

Nah, smaller groups are good. Gabe (Papa_Smurf) will also be coming out with his FJ. So is Pat coming? That would be a decent turnout for sure.

How long does this trail take? What time are we looking to be done, it's relative of course...

YotaGirl
12-28-2007, 03:48 PM
Well, figuring we'll get to the trailhead at 9am I'd say we could be done by 1pm, 2 at the latest. I've never done Phillips Loop, but I know it's easier than the Doran loop. Last time I did Doran in about 4 hours and that was including waiting 45 minutes for some broke ass Jeeps to hobble by.

Maybe Colin can chime in...I'm not sure if we're doing the whole Doran loop and Phillips or just the Odessa Canyon side and Phillips. If we do both complete loops I would guess closer to 2 pm.

Phillips Loop is a moderate 2.7 mile trip. Takes less than an hour. The trail book i have shows both Doran Loop and Odessa Canyon. Basically it shows Odessa Canyon as running Doran Loop backwards and using the bypass around the gnar spot. It says that it should take 3-4 hours. I would say 4 hours with a group. So that would put us right around 1400 hours.
