i recently picked up some LC coils for the rear of my 4runner. the colors on the springs are single grey, orange, & white. both are the same colors. going by what sonoran sells in his kits the colors are slightly different. does anyone know if the ones i have are the same or anyone have any information for me?

based on steve's website, he sells matching coils, which i believe are the longer coils of the two (though i could be wrong about that)

so if your coils are both the same length, you should be fine (which those would be because they have the same color codes)

thats my thoughts on it anyway, im sure others will chime in

I'm a little rusty on the whole LC coil thing. First off, I see you have the 9-wrap coils. I have these as well, and I can check the colors for you, but, have to climb up in there and check. Those will give you 4" of lift depending on how old they are. I really like the ride of them by the way. If they came from the same vehicle, they should have a L and R side. The longer one is the one that should go on your drivers side (Tank side). As for the ones Steve sells, I would assume he sells the 7 or 8 wrap coils and not the 9-wrap.

The 80 springs that came in my system l kit are Double Purple + Gray + White, they are both the same color code. I would agree that you are all set if you have the same codes on both springs.

looking at the back of my truck, i have one of each.

maybe this is why my right side feels like its sitting low.

im gonna put them in soon. but i figured while i save for shocks why not ask for some input since the springs have diff colors than what we usually see.

its not a strut, you dont need shocks, just put em in!

ya i know i dont need them, but i have cheapo $70 a pair extended length shocks in the rear. figured i buy the lc shocks and maybe get a little better ride and possibly a little more droop. the shocks also havta be unbolted at the bottom to get the new springs in & out easily, so im half way there. i also dont have any money to wheel these days so im not super ambitious to do anything to my truck recently.......dam tool addictions

it would be best to install first, then see what happens with the lift height.

just my .02.

but to be honest, 9 wraps? I havent even seen a 9 wrap LC coil, just 7 and 8 wraps (8 wraps pump 4 to 4.5 inchs of the rear) while a 7 wrap is 3.25 to 3.75 of lift in the rear.

IIRC, you currently are not running top out spacers in the front, you may want to get a set of those too or the rake may be a little on the ridiculous side.

The LC coils I had were like 9.5 wraps. . it was wayyyy too much lift. I got 891s now.

id rather have rake than use a topout that puts pressure on the balljoints. :)

is a 3/8" top out spacer really going to put that much strain on the ball joints? :flipoff: I run them and have no problems. With the top outs i still have a fair amount of rake, but i could just imagine how ridiculous the rake would look without them.

good eyes people, i didnt even notice mine were 9 wrap. steve is selling 8 wraps. seems like im going to get way to much lift outa these. i would use 3/8 top plates. i have 3/4 top plates from my toytec lift, but thats to high. it really isnt putting much stress on ball joints though, i mean out of all the stuff we put on our trucks and how we treat them on the trail a little plastic spacer less than half inch thick means nothing. who knows maybe these coils with a top plate up front wouldnt be to high, im sure it would look stupid with my tire size though. it could

depends on what kind of lift is already in there and how much. spacers, coils? 2", 2.5", 3"??

if you have a 2.5" lift, a half inch topout might indeed put too much stress on the ball joints. i had a 2.5" spacer lift in the front of my 4runner and went to add a 1" spacer and that was waaaay too much stress. a half inch may have worked better but its doubtful.

there really isnt much room with IFS and the more crap you jam in there, the more stress youre adding to other components besides cv's.

id rather have rake than wheel and break constantly.

i wouldnt say it would be "nothing" when you go to install it, when youre fighting that lower arm down to get the topout in, you might rethink the importance of stressing out the lower bj's.

Well, you may not have known that brian and i have wheeled together and i know he is running the tundra springs and trekmasters up front, thats why i suggested the 3/8" top out. I would never suggested cranking up the suspension to exceed the 2.5" max. But on tundra springs, the topout is a nice easy way to get a little extra lift.

Lee

of course i know that, you wheeled with my club

i dont know what lift brian has, thats why i was expressing caution, but moreover it was to caution others who may search and find this thread later on.

oh and i misspoke earlier... i meant to say i had a 2" spacer lift and wanted to put a 1" topout in.

if you want the best bolt-on option to level out the lift you'll get in the rear, go with the 883s with the 3/8" top spacer, it's definitely pushing your cv and uca angles, but i'm running them and i haven't seen more lift or front end clearance from an ifs 3rd gen. i have the 8 wraps and i sit perfectly level, you should be pretty darn close

you have any pics that show the cv angle on that?

only thing i have right now, the cvs are parallel to the lca's though

well im running tundra coils, i could add the 3/8 and be fine. i wouldnt go any higher than that. someday ill get around to putting the lc coils in and see how it looks and if it would look acceptable to me with 3/8 plates. i know if i put the plates in now it would be higher up front so it may just work out.

just depends on preference. i had a bit of rake with the 882s which are a tad taller than the tundras and i didn't like the rake i got, it does have it's advantages, you can load down your rear with recovery equipment and not suffer from sag. it's up to you

i actually did get these coils because my rear does sag a bit when loaded up for wheelin.

Hi,

Does anyone know the part numbers for the 7- or 8-wrap LC coils?

Thanks.

Happy New Year!!
