Picked up a 4Runner yesterday. It didn't take long after the Pismo trip to get one. Right now I'm as sick as a dog so I don't have any pictures. Anyone want to buy a truck? It's only been offroad a couple times and loves the sand.

Right now if I wasn't Sh*t'n like a mule I'd get some pictures. Instead I think the wife is going to take me over to get a deck plate. Sweet.

haha! cant wait for pics, what are the specs?
and i think the jury is still out on whether or not the deck plate is worth doing.

Specs:
1999 4Runner, forest green, 5 speed, highlander. It's got a sun roof but no locker. I figure I'll start piecing together what I need for that. I'm glad I got the 5 speed. The auto was a little weak and the 5 speed adds that little bit of peepyness.

NICE!!!! adding an elocker is alot of work, but i think it will be one of the best mods ever done to the vehicle.

welcome to the insane asylum! good choice on the 5 speed. read my website at 4runners.org to take care of the basic maintenance items. im sure ken will help you as well. redline MT-90 for the transmission---trust me on this and do not use anything else.

Yup, Redline works great in the manual trans. When I bought my 4Runner, my first "mods" were just catching it up on maintenance. Change all of the fluids, inspect the belts and fix anything that may be broken. Detail it and inside and out and throw in the Husky liners before you trash the interior.
You can have a 4Runner trail ready in a weekend; lift and sliders. We'll tackle that electric rear locker before too long.
Green 5-speed '99 Highlander...very desireable combo there Mike!

I've been puking too much to want to go outside and climb under the 4runner to check things out. I did have enough energy to check out some sliders and Tru-Flow on line though. Couldn't reach my wallet so I didn't order anything. I got used to the sliders on the truck so those are a must. I wheeled for a while without a locker so I think I'm fine on the challenge. I do want to get a bumper so I can mount up my winch. I like the Shrockworks one but I'm going to have to take it easy for awhile.
When I get a chance I'm going to go through and change all the fuilds. Who knows when they were done last. The interior is a little dirty and has build up from the PO and their dog. A shop vac and some simple green will help some. So far this weekend we've had to bail on 2 events this weekend so I'm going to be doing some arm chair wheeling. Maybe next week I'll have some progress news.

mike,
i have an extra tru flow. its one of the earlier ones that had some fitment problems. but i grinded it down in the right places so it fits alright. not quite perfect, but allows the lid to close. if you want it, just pay the shipping and its yours (pm me). you'll need to buy the cleaning fluid and the recharging spray though b/c its dirty :)
re cleaning: i'd recommend that you remove both front seats. very easy to do, 4 bolts each seat. the hardest part is removing those plastic covers w/o breaking them. it'll make cleaning much, much easier and you can be assured that you'll be able to clean every milkshake, coffee, etc stain and grab all the moldy french fries as well.

In Re: To the deckplate...
Just flip open the lid of the air box until your sure you want to do it. Open the air box basically has a deckplate, and closed, its bacn to factry and waterproof once again...

Had time and energy to take the running boards off today. They're actually really nice to put sockets and wrenches on while you're under the truck. Now I'm drained, literally.

Nice find. I was originally looking for a 99-00, but couldn't find a Highlander packaged rig with less than 100k miles, rust or been abused. Are you planning to jump the 4Runner, too?

If necessary, so yeah it'll probably get jumped a couple of times.
I was looking for a 99 or 2000 with a locker and 5 speed. This one doesn't have the locker but it was priced right and only had 84K miles.
