I was browsing slee's site and i noticed he has a kit for the fj80s to use heated seats.

Im not sure if their is a universal kit out there, was wondering if anybody had something off the top of their head that would come to mind.

or their is the option of getting 01-02 limited seats with heated pads and somehow wiring it in, plus id have auto controllers instead of my manual seats.

call me a butt pansey if you will, but i like heated seats and so does my butt :)

I put one of those that Paddle found about 6 months ago in the passenger seat for my girlfriend. Very simple install and seem to work well. Two heat settings.

She claims they heat up faster and run hotter than the ones in her 2004 Highlander.

Those were the same ones I was going to install but never got around to it.
Definately the best deal going if you're going to DIY them.

I believe you will need leather seats, since the heating units might discolor the cloth seats or maybe even catch fire (not likely, but the installer told me that, so that it for what it's worth).

Just get some of these (http://www.warmx.de/englisch/tights/tights_info_en.html), butt pansy. :D

Now I know why you guys want seat warmers since I have cloth.
Leather seats in -30 would make anyone a butt pansy.

What??!! Are you sure you didn't mistakenly buy a YE instead of an SE? (Yuppie Edition) :D

Yeah, my old 98 Limited had leather seats and it did suck in the winter time. In your case, I'd definitely spring for the aftermarket seat warmers. I got quoted $200 installed from my local car stereo shop, so if you can do it yourself, it'd only be around $100 to do.

Can you put seat warmers safely in cloth seats?

Yes. 2005-2008 Subaru Outbacks and Legacy GTs have seat heaters regardless of whether they have cloth or leather interiors. They have 5-settings too, so I would probably try and use Subaru controls on the aftermarket heaters.

I put the model shown on top of my cloth seat, but under the seat covers. Directions suggest peeling back the factory cover and placing there... but Toyota didn't mess around attaching their covers to the frame, so I took the easy route.

No issues so far. I do have them wired so they go off when the key is out. Would be easy to leave them on and kill your battery.
